Arsenal v Chelsea: Tips, predictions & odds

Arsenal snapped a two-game losing sequence and returned to the Premier League summit with a 2-0 victory at Wolves on Saturday.

They will be aiming for further success at home to London rivals Chelsea, who must attempt to bounce back after their 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal v Chelsea Predictions

Chelsea or draw double chance - 11/8

Chelsea are enduring a frustrating season but they have delivered some of their strongest performances against the better teams and look overpriced to avoid defeat against leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The contest holds far greater significance for the Gunners, who have the chance to open up a three point advantage in the title race.

However, Arsenal will be acutely aware that they need at least one slip up from third-placed Manchester City, who are just a point worse off having played one game less.

Any more dropped points could seriously undermine Arsenal's title challenge and there are a couple of potential banana skins this week with the Chelsea match taking place just five days before Sunday's north London derby away to Tottenham.

Mikel Arteta will be urging his players to focus on one game at a time and his squad looks in reasonable shape with only long-term absentee Jurrien Timber out of contention.

Arteta's side were worthy 2-0 winners at injury-hit Wolves on Saturday, although they wasted a lot of chances and had to wait until Martin Odegaard's 95th minute goal to be certain of the outcome.

There was lots to like about some of Arsenal's build up play but their lack of ruthlessness is slightly concerning at a stage of the season when there is so little room for error.

Wolves were unable to punish Arsenal for their profligacy but Chelsea are a much more dangerous opponent, despite their obvious struggles in front of goal at the weekend.

Chelsea lacked a killer instinct against Manchester City on Saturday but they were 6-0 winners at home to Everton last Monday and have racked up 19 goals across their last six Premier League fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games and their FA Cup performance against City offered further evidence of their tendency to raise their game against high profile opposition.

They have drawn four of five league games against top three teams, including a 2-2 at home to Arsenal, and look overpriced 11/8 shots to avoid defeat on Tuesday.

Under 2.5 goals – 13/8

Arsenal are the Premier League's top scorers with 77 goals in 33 games but they haven't been at their free-flowing best in recent weeks and their contest with Chelsea could be a tight affair.

The Gunners have recruited intelligently in recent years but their search for a top class striker is ongoing.

Bukayo Saka is Arsenal's top scorer with 14 league goals but nobody else has reached double figures and the Gunners seemed to lack a cutting edge in their recent losses at home to Aston Villa (0-2) and Bayern Munich (0-1).

They scored twice from 24 shots against Wolves but are unlikely to get as many chances against Chelsea, who are sure to be fired up to atone for their Wembley disappointment.

Six of Arsenal's last eight games have generated less than three goals and another low-scoring outcome looks likely.

Moises Caicedo to be carded - 21/10

The midfield battle is likely to be fiercely contested and combative Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo could overstep the mark with some of his tackling.

Caicedo performed well alongside Enzo Fernandez in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, allowing the Londoners to exert a measure of control for periods of the game.

However, the 22-year-old had to walk a disciplinary tightrope for the entire second half after he was booked for a tactical foul on Jack Grealish in the 45th minute.

It was Caicedo's seventh caution among his last 15 appearances and there is every chance of the Ecuadorian adding to his card count at the Emirates.
