Argentina v Peru: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Argentina play their final group game at Copa America against Peru, with the defending champions out to build on a perfect start.

While the World Cup winners have already secured their spot in the last eight, lineup changes should introduce plenty of players who are desperate to prove themselves.

As for Peru, they still have a chance of making it out of the group, but this test should prove a step too far, even with Argentina missing both their captain and their coach for the game in Miami.

Argentina v Peru betting tips and predictions

Argentina to win to nil - 11/10

While Argentina are through, a heavy defeat combined with a win for Canada could see them slip into second place. There’s still a job to do for the Argentines, even if it isn’t worth risking many of their key names, including Lionel Messi who is an injury doubt.

However, Argentina have some fantastic depth at international level, so their rotated side is still packed with quality. Even with significant changes, they should prove too strong for a Peru side who have taken one point from their first two games.

Argentina have the head-to-head edge between these two sides, going unbeaten across their last 16 encounters and winning 12 of them. The Argentines have kept a clean sheet in four successive meetings with Peru, including a World Cup qualifier last October.

Since winning the World Cup, Argentina have won to nil in 13 of their last 16 fixtures. Meanwhile, Peru haven’t scored at this tournament and they’ve managed a single goal across their last four matches - netting in a narrow win away to El Salvador.

Argentina should keep Peru quiet and with plenty of good attacking options, they can make the breakthrough and secure a win to nil.

Lautaro Martinez to score any time - 15/8

While he hasn’t started a game at the tournament so far, Lautaro Martinez is making a bid to finish as top scorer. The Inter Milan forward is coming off an excellent Serie A campaign and he’s taken that form into the Copa America, scoring off the bench in both of their games so far.

With a rotated side expected and Messi ruled out, Martinez is in line for his first start. The forward has put together a brilliant run for his country, scoring in four of their last five games and netting five times in that run.

Martinez scored home and away to Peru in the previous World Cup qualifying campaign and he is good value for a goal in this clash at 15/8

Draw/Argentina Half Time/Full Time - 11/8

While Argentina have won both of their games at the tournament so far, they’ve needed second-half strikes to get them over the line. While Julian Alvarez broke the deadlock for them after 49 minutes in their opener, Martinez netted the winner against Chile in the 88th-minute.

Peru have seen a single goal scored across their first two matches - Canada’s 74th-minute winner in their previous game. Goals have been at a premium for them of late, with only two scored in total over the course of their last four games.

With that in mind, Argentina may well be frustrated early on in this encounter. They have shown up late in games so far, so Draw/Argentina stands out at 11/8 in the half time/full time market.
