Argentina v Ecuador: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Defending Copa America champions Argentina have breezed through to the quarter-final stage of the tournament and they next face Ecuador on Friday for a place in the last four.

La Albiceleste are aiming to become the first back-to-back winners of this event since Chile in 2016 and the performances of Lionel Scaloni's men suggest they will be hard to stop.

Argentina v Ecuador betting tips and predictions

Argentina to win to nil - 10/11

Argentina ended a 28-year wait for a record-equalling 15th Copa America crown in 2021 and they are on course to move ahead of Uruguay in the all-time rankings with victory in the United States.

Scaloni's troops won all three group matches to nil, recording 2-0 victories over Canada and Peru either side of a 1-0 success against Chile, and that same bet can land again in the early hours of Friday morning.

La Albiceleste have kept four clean sheets from their last five fixtures, which included a 1-0 friendly triumph over Ecuador in June, and it is hard to see how La Tricolor can reverse that result.

Felix Sanchez's side picked up a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Mexico in their final group game to finish second, booking this quarter-final tie, but this will be a bridge too far for them.

It is unlikely to be a rout for Argentina, who have scored more than once in just one of the last five meetings against Ecuador, but their extra quality should shine through as the match goes on.

Lautaro Martinez to score any time - 8/5

While Lionel Messi will garner much attention for Argentina, his team-mate Lautaro Martinez has been in wonderful form in the US and the 8/5 on the Inter Milan ace to net any time is hard to ignore.

The 26-year-old came into the tournament on the back of a fantastic domestic campaign, netting 24 Serie A goals to land the Capocannoniere title and guide his club to league glory, and he has kept that momentum going.

Martinez came off the bench to score in the first two group matches before then grabbing a brace in the Peru victory when handed a start in the absence of the injured Messi.

Whether he retains his starting spot or not, Martinez has shown how deadly he can be when coming off the bench and there is every chance he can strike for the fifth time.

Moises Caicedo to be booked - 11/4

Recent meetings between these two nations have been hot-tempered affairs, with a total of 33 yellows and one red being produced in the last eight encounters.

Frustrations often boil over and given the amount of defending Ecuador will likely have to do, the chance of cautions being dished out are high and Moises Caicedo is a prime candidate to go in the book at 11/4.

The Chelsea midfielder will be asked to do a lot of the dirty work in the middle of the park, tasked with stopping the multiple threats Argentina have, and a rash challenge or two could be seen.

Caicedo was shown a yellow in the draw against Mexico, making it three cautions from his last six international appearances, and he may fall foul of the referee once again.
