The semi-finals of the FA Cup have been contested at a neutral ground since the inaugural edition in 1872, with Kennington Oval, now utilised as a cricket ground, hosting the first semi-final between Royal Engineers and Crystal Palace.
It wasn't until 2008 that the new Wembley Stadium would become the home of the FA Cup semi-final, and this has remained the case ever since.

Before 2008, the likes of Old Trafford, Villa Park and Elland Road hosted the penultimate stage in the competition, and the debate to reintroduce a neutral venue away from Wembley is likely to continue, often proving a costly day for the travelling fans.
The initial reason for hosting the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley back in 2008 was to allow the FA to recoup some of the costs of rebuilding the stadium, but many have contested that, 17 years later, the stage should be saved for the final.
