Newcastle United's Alexander Isak is priced at 4/5 to score more Premier League goals than Ollie Watkins in the 2024/25 season.

It's understandable why there's so little between the two in the odds as Isak and Watkins were two of the most prolific scorers in the Premier League last term, with the former netting 21 times and the latter chalking up his best top flight return with 19.

Integral players for their respective sides, both forwards will have their sights set on dethroning Erling Haaland as the Premier League's top goalscorer and the pair are priced at 16/1, behind only Haaland and Mohamed Salah in the market.

Another tremendous individual campaign has resulted in Isak being linked with a whole host of clubs around Europe, including Arsenal.

His output this season, however, hinges entirely on the Swede's ability to remain fit over the course of a season.

A groin issue threatened to keep Isak sidelined for prolonged periods but the 24-year-old only missed eight matches in the 2023/24 campaign and it was telling in his goal return, notching up 11 more goals than he managed in the 2022/23 season.

Eddie Howe's task of keeping his star striker fit and firing will be aided by Newcastle's absence from European competition.

Watkins was an instrumental figure in Aston Villa achieving a top-four finish and the 28-year-old announced himself on the international stage with the match-winning goal for England in the semi-finals against the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Only Cole Palmer registered more goal involvements than the former Exeter and Brentford frontman last season, with Watkins ranking first in the Premier League for assists.

Watkins has demonstrated gradual improvement having scored 14, 11, 15 and 19 in his four years at Villa Park and there will be an expectation that the Torquay-born forward reproduces similar numbers to his previous campaign.

While Villa's involvement in the newly-expanded Champions League will test Unai Emery's squad depth, there's likely to be less concern over Watkins; Villa's talisman is the pinnacle of health and wellbeing having missed just five league matches in the last four seasons.
