Ajax Women v Chelsea Women: Tips, Predictions and Odds

After topping Group D in the Champions League, Chelsea Women are expected to claim a comfortable quarter-final first-leg victory over Ajax Women in Amsterdam.

Chelsea Women are aiming to give legendary manager Emma Hayes the perfect send-off in her final season at the club and they are hot favourites to win their Champions League quarter-final tie against Ajax Women.

The Londoners travel to Amsterdam for Tuesday's first leg and they should be in good heart after last Friday's impressive 3-1 home victory over Women's Super League rivals Arsenal.

Chelsea Women to win to nil – 6/4

Chelsea were on course for a fourth win to nil in five Women's Super League matches before an Catarina Macario's 86th-minute own goal in the 3-1 win over Arsenal.

The Blues' defence, marshalled by England international Jess Carter, should prove hard to break down at the Johan Cruyff Arena and the visitors look a tempting bet to win Tuesday's first leg while keeping a clean sheet.

Chelsea restricted a talented Arsenal side to just two shots on target in a crucial fixture in the WSL title race and their recent league results include 3-0 wins over Brighton and Everton and a 4-0 demolition of Leicester.

They lost 1-0 to title rivals Manchester City in a tight league clash in February but avenged that defeat with a 1-0 win over City in the League Cup semi-finals.

Since the start of last month Chelsea have also enjoyed cup wins to nil against Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton so they should be confident of standing firm against a limited Ajax attacking unit.

The Dutch side progressed as runners-up to Paris St-Germain in Group C, matching the French club's tally of 10 points, but they scored only seven goals in six games against PSG, Bayern Munich and Roma.

Chelsea finished their group-stage campaign with a 4-0 away win at Paris FC and Hayes' side are unlikely to offer their quarter-final hosts much encouragement on Tuesday.

1st Half to be Chelsea Women Highest Scoring Half – 21/10

Chelsea made a rip-roaring start to last week's WSL clash with Arsenal, racing into a 3-0 lead inside 32 minutes thanks to an early Lauren James strike and a brace from Sjoeke Nusken.

Brilliant winger James now has 13 goals in 13 league starts this term and she could inspire another dynamic first-half display for Chelsea.

Her hat-trick against Manchester United in January included goals in the fifth and 23rd minutes while in November she opened the scoring in the 11th minute against Liverpool and the second minute against Leicester.

The Blues have been leading at half-time in nine of their last 10 league wins and they also scored in the 13th minute of December's 4-1 loss at Arsenal.

They may well blast out of the blocks in Amsterdam so the odds about them scoring more goals in the first half than the second half merit a bet.

Over 10 corners – 11/10

Chelsea had only three corners to Arsenal's four in their last WSL match but they were 3-0 up in little over half an hour so did not need to chase the game.

Before then, they had racked up nine corners against Leicester, 10 against title hopefuls Manchester City, 10 against Everton and eight against Brighton and backing over 10 corners looks a decent play against Ajax.

Chelsea pose a huge threat down the flanks and only three clubs amassed more than their 40 corners in the Champions League group stage.

Ajax are a relatively inexperienced side but they also have some exciting wingers in Tiny Hoekstra and Chasity Grant and they averaged a healthy 4.7 corners per game in the group stage.
