Ivory Coast to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations - 7/1
Nigeria to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations - 10/1
Ghana to make the final - 13/2

Setting the scene…

The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will see 24 nations taking part in Ivory Coast in a bid to land Africa’s most coveted footballing prize.

World Cup surprise package Morocco head the market at 5/1, but they are not far ahead of defending champions Senegal, Algeria, Ivory Coast and Egypt, suggesting it will be a wide-open tournament.

The action begins on January 13th with a Group A clash between hosts Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bisseau, while the final will be played at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on February 11th.

Ivory Coast to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations - 7/1

Ivory Coast are the host nation, which could bring added pressure from the home crowd in some situations, although playing on your own patch seems to be more of an advantage than a hindrance in this tournament.

The home nation has won 11 of the previous 33 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and coached by Jean-Louis Gasset, a man who clearly knows how to win having worked under footballing legend Laurent Blanc for several years, the Elephants could be in for a big tournament with the crowd behind them.

A star-studded squad boasting the likes of Sebastian Haller, Franck Kessie and Jeremie Boga certainly has the quality to get the better of opponents and it could be a tournament to remember for the hosts.

James Milton's Tip:

Ivory Coast have struggled on the big stage since winning the 2015 edition of AFCON and have failed to make it past the quarter final stage in recent years, but, buoyed by the home crowd, they could go further this time around.

They have been beaten just once in their last 11 matches on home soil and won their pair of warm-up games in November by an aggregate score of 11-0, suggesting they are raring to go and could be set to land their third AFCON title.

Nigeria to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations - 10/1

Nigeria were hugely disappointing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, crashing out in the round of 16 to Tunisia, but they may have learnt from their mistakes and arrive on the Ivory Coast with an even stronger squad than their last attempt at the continental silverware.

Newly-crowned African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen is the Super Eagles’ star man, having scored seven goals in 13 Serie A appearances for Napoli this term, and he has a great supporting cast including Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman.

With one of the strongest squads at the tournament, they could be set to land their first AFCON title since 2013.

James Milton's Tip:

At significantly greater odds than many other sides in the market, Nigeria make great appeal to land the prize at a double-figure price.

Their squad is talented and they should make it out of their Group A alongside the Ivory Coast, with Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bisseau unlikely to cause many issues, which could lead them to glory.

Ghana to make the final - 13/2

Of the sides at double figure odds, none appeal quite as much as Ghana, although they may not have what it takes to take the prize, so taking them to make the final could be the smarter play.

The Black Stars have consistently disappointed at the Africa Cup of Nations, failing to take the title since 1982, but there is a positive feeling around the group this time around and most of their key players will arrive on the Ivory Coast in fine form.

Jordan Ayew has been Crystal Palace’s highest assist provider in the Premier League this term, while arguably Ghana’s best player, Mohammed Kudus, has scored five times in his last eight games for West Ham and both could be pivotal.

James Milton's Tip:

Ghana have been runners-up in two of the last seven AFCONs, so they know what it takes to make a deep run into this tournament and could be set for another final appearance.

New boss Chris Hughton has a knack for getting the most out of limited resources and the Black Stars, despite not boasting their most talented squad, could shock many under the stewardship of the former Brighton manager.
