This weekend is a crucial one in the Serie A title race, with each of the top two facing huge tests. Leaders Napoli head to Roma on Sunday night, while Inter will be out to move level at the top with a victory over city rivals AC Milan.
However, this season’s derby clashes haven’t gone to plan for the Nerazzurri. Inter Milan suffered a late defeat in the first league encounter in September. That was followed by last month’s 3-2 defeat in the Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
While Inter are bearing down on Napoli, they risk falling off the pace unless they can get one over the Rossoneri.
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals - 11/10
Sergio Conceicao has had a mixed start at AC Milan, with that Super Cup win the clear highlight. The Portuguese has guided the Rossoneri through the Champions League’s first phase and he’ll be confident of taking them past Feyenoord in the first knockout round.
However, Milan have looked shaky of late. Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb ended their hopes of a top-eight finish in the Champions League. They’ve won two of their last three league games, but the Rossoneri needed late comebacks to see off Como and Parma either side of a defeat to Juventus.
Conceicao departed Porto having built a reputation for pragmatic football, but he hasn’t been able to achieve that in Milan. The Rossoneri head into this weekend having managed one clean sheet in their last nine and that came against a Girona side already resigned to a European exit.
Both teams have scored in four of Milan’s last five Serie A matches, Sunday's hosts have scored five times across two meetings with Inter this season.
Inter head into this clash in fantastic form and while they can boast a strong defensive set-up, they are sometimes prone to leaving gaps at the back. Juventus, Milan, Bologna and Torino have scored multiple goals against them at San Siro this season, but Simone Inzaghi’s side have scored in all 21 of their league games.
Both sides can carry their scoring run into this one. Given that two-thirds of Inter’s league games have featured at least three goals, back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at odds-against.
Lautaro Martinez to score anytime - 8/5
Lautaro Martinez scored a midweek hat-trick against Monaco and his fine scoring form isn’t fully reflected in his price here. The forward has scored in five consecutive appearances for Inter as he makes a late push for the Serie A golden boot.
While the Argentinian hasn’t yet hit double figures for the campaign in Serie A, he has netted in four of his last five league games to move up the scoring charts. He struck nine goals across his last nine matches in all competitions, including a goal in that Super Cup clash with Milan.
With the Rossoneri looking vulnerable at the back, Martinez is a good bet to score anytime and continue his rich vein of form.
Inter Milan to win 2-1 - 15/2
While Milan have won the first two meetings between these two this season, Inter look to be clicking into gear for a surge towards the title. They’ve won 21 of their last 25 matches across all competitions and eight of their previous nine in Serie A.
Milan have let games get away from them in recent weeks, so Inter’s quality can tell in this encounter. The Rossoneri are backed to continue their scoring streak, while three of their five league defeats this term have come by a single goal.
