Hearts have started to pick up some positive results in the Scottish Premiership and they will be hoping to keep the momentum going when they head to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen on Sunday.

Just one place above rock-bottom St Johnstone heading into this weekend's fixtures, the Jam Tarts head to Aberdeen looking to extend their winning run to three matches following 1-0 wins over Motherwell and Dundee United.

The Dons' season has been on a downward spiral over the last couple of months and having been Celtic's closest title challengers at the start of the campaign, they now sit 22 points behind the Bhoys in fourth.

Aberdeen made a sensational start to the Scottish Premiership season, winning 10 of their opening 11 matches, while also reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

However, the Dons lost 6-0 to Celtic in that last-four encounter and, although they bounced back to winning ways straight away with a 4-1 home success over Dundee, they have been on a downward curve since.

Jimmy Thelin's side have not tasted success in their last 10 matches, losing seven of those fixtures and drawing three times, and Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Motherwell made it five successive losses for them.

The hosts are stuck in a huge rut and they are unlikely to get any respite from a Hearts side that are on a two-game winning run and are unbeaten in their last three assignments.

The Jambos have collected 10 points from the last 15 on offer in the league and they will fancy their chances of overcoming an Aberdeen side who haven't won at Pittodrie since 11th November.

Hearts have won three and drawn one of the last six meetings against the Dons and they can register an important victory that could see them move up to seventh in the standings, if results elsewhere go their way.

Aberdeen's slump in form has coincided with a drop in their attacking output, with the Dons failing to score in three of their last four matches.

Thelin's troops haven't scored more than once in a game since a 3-3 draw against Hibernian on 26th November and this lack of cutting edge is hurting them massively.

Under 2.5 goals has landed in five of their last eight matches, a bet which has also been successful in five of Hearts' last six away assignments in all competitions.

The Jam Tarts' last two outings have produced 1-0 victories, while the reverse fixture between these two in December ended 1-1 at Tynecastle Park.

The Dons picked up their first red of the campaign last time out - Slobodan Rubezic given his marching orders just before half time against Motherwell - and their frustrations have boiled over on numerous occasions this term.

There have been just three Scottish Premiership in which Aberdeen have received less than two yellow cards, while they have ended up with the most yellows in a match in 10 of their 21 league fixtures.

If Aberdeen don't get off to a good start, the Pittodrie crowd could get on their back and this could result in some hefty challenges being made as frustrations boil over again.

While Hearts are no saints themselves, they did manage to avoid a booking three games ago against Ross County and they just seem to be keeping their emotions in check better than the Dons are right now.
