There’s a fierce battle for third place in the Scottish Premiership this season and two of the contenders go head-to-head on Sunday as Aberdeen host Dundee United at Pittodrie.
The Dons were in fine fettle with three consecutive wins in all competitions before Celtic brought them back down to earth with a humbling 5-1 defeat at Parkhead last time out.
Sunday offers an opportunity for Jimmy Thelin’s side to get back in the saddle and take a step closer to earning third spot come the end of the season at the expense of this weekend’s opponents Dundee United.
Aberdeen to win to nil - 5/2
Pittodrie has not been a happy hunting ground for Dundee United in recent times and it’s hard to see the Terrors coming away from their trip up the east coast with anything to show for their efforts.
On their last two visits to the home of the Dons, United have come away from the ground on the back of 1-0 defeats.
The Dons have managed to win and keep their opponents off the scoresheet in their last two home games against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup and Kilmarnock in the Premiership and Thelin’s side appeal at 5/2 to win to nil at Pittodrie for a third successive game.
Under 2.5 total goals - 4/5
Given how games have tended to play out between these sides, it would be unwise to expect a goal fest in this east-coast showdown on Sunday.
There have only been two goals scored in the two meetings between these sides already in the Premiership this season, with both teams earning 1-0 home victories.
With Aberdeen edging a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock in their last home outing and Dundee United failing to score in four of their last five away games in all competitions, expect goals to be at a premium in this one.
Considering the form, the 4/5 for under 2.5 totals goals is a solid option and could also be used as a foundation for a more appealing bet builder.
Pape Habib Gueye anytime goalscorer - 15/8
If there’s one man who could score the potentially decisive goal at Pittodrie this weekend, it’s Pape Habib Gueye.
The Senegalese striker came flying out of the blocks for the Dons at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, scoring five goals in his first five matches of the Premiership season.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, who had two spells in Norwegian football with Aalesund and Kristiansund, he suffered a muscle tear back in October which forced out of action for a few months.
However, Gueye has returned to fitness and last got on the scoresheet in an impressive 3-0 home victory over Dunfermline in the cup.
Coming off the bench in the heavy defeat against Celtic, Gueye is now pushing for a starting role ahead of Sunday’s game and could be given an opportunity from the off against the Terrors.
Starting or not on Sunday, Gueye has already shown how good he can be in front of goal this term and if he can rediscover that early-season form, he catches the eye at 15/8 to find the back of the net in this one.
