Australian Cricket: Finch ready for ODI return

Australian white-ball skipper Aaron Finch says he should have no issues slotting back into ODI mode as he prepares to make a return against Pakistan on Tuesday.

Australia are priced at 13/10 to beat Pakistan in the first of three ODIs and Finch will be hoping to hit the ground running.

Lengthy ODI absence

Finch has not played an ODI since way back in December 2020 when he scored 75 runs in a 13-run loss to India.

In fairness Australia have only played three ODIs over the last 12 months so he will not be the only player heading into the game with a bit of rustiness.

Even so, Finch does not think it will take him long to get back in to the swing of things.

"I don't think that's too much of an issue," Finch said of his lengthy absence. "ODI cricket out of the three formats is probably the easiest one to be able to fit back into quicker.

"There's enough time there to be able to get yourself into the game with bat and ball, whereas T20 cricket can be a little bit more frantic, and Test cricket can test every part of your game straight away.

"I'm not too concerned about it. I'm really looking forward to starting this series and playing cricket in Pakistan for the first time in my career."

Key players missing

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and David Warner will all be rested for the three-match series while Mitch Marsh and Steve Smith are injured.

But that presents an opportunity for fellow west Aussie Cameron Green to step in to replace Marsh, while Marnus Labuschagne will come in for Smith.
