NBA Finals - US Sports: Game 4 Preview

Game Four of the see-sawing NBA finals series will take place late on Friday night with Boston Celtics currently leading 2-1.

A 116-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors secured the third game of the series with the Celtics looking to secure their first NBA title for over a decade.

Golden State have won three times since 2015 and will still fancy their chances of winning due to that superior recent record, but Steve Kerr's side are going to have to mount a comeback.

Boston are priced at 10/17 to win Game Four while Golden State Warriors are 6/4.

Boston surge to third game win

On Wednesday evening, Boston went 2-1 up in the series as they aim for an 18th NBA title - a total which would be a record in the franchise competition.

Incredibly, only one of those titles has come since 1986 (2008 when they defeated the LA Lakers) but they are rolling back the years to try and go for glory.

Boston's win in Game 3 was built upon their very quick start to proceedings, as they were 33-22 up after the first quarter and went into the half time break leading 68-56.

Jaylen Brown had an excellent start to the match scoring 17 of his 27 points in the first quarter alone and a repeat of that will be vital to securing more victories.

Golden State rallied in the third quarter and won that by 33-25 but it was ultimately too little too late and Boston were able to walk away with a relatively comfortable 16-point margin of victory.

Boston will also have home advantage once more for the fourth game and one more win would put them a game away - and force Golden State into a situation where they would have to win each of the last three.

Boston share the points out

Notably, there has been a different top scorer for Boston in each of the three play off games so far with several players impressing.

The experienced Al Horford, who is playing in his first NBA Finals series after 141 games in the play offs, grabbed 26 points in the first game win, while Jayson Tatum top-scored with 28 in the 107-88 loss to Golden State in the second contest of the series.

Game 3 saw Brown top score with 27 while Tatum and Marcus Smart added 26 and 24 points respectively.

Contrast that to Golden State - Steph Curry has been topping the charts consistently for a number of years and he has done in this series so far with hauls of 34, 29, and 31 in each of the first three games.

If Curry doesn't perform, then questions may be asked as to who is in reserve, while Boston appear to have plenty of firepower at their disposal.

Curry a doubt for Game 4

Speaking of which, the news that Curry had to be withdrawn in the fourth quarter will be of great concern to both Kerr and fans of the Warriors.

After his 31-point haul, which included six three-pointers, Curry was taken off with an injury to his left leg, meaning the likes of Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins will have to step to the plate.

Kerr confirmed he brought him off due to accepting defeat in the final quarter but if the 34-year-old is ruled out of even one match of the series then it will be a shattering blow to the Warriors' chances.
