One of the most hotly-anticipated entertainment events of the year, attracting viewership from all over the world, the Oscars brings together a who's who of the most famous faces in show business.
Ahead of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025, we take a look at everything you need to know about the prestigious event.
The 2025 Oscars will take place on Monday 3rd March 2025.
The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 00:00 GMT and finish at 03:00 GMT.
The 2025 Oscars will take place at the event's typical venue of the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The Dolby Theatre has hosted the Oscars every year since 2002, with the exception of 2021 which was held at Los Angeles Union Station due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2025 Oscars will be hosted by late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien.
Host of the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, the 97th Academy Awards will mark the first time O'Brien will take centre stage at the Oscars, with the event overseen by Jimmy Kimmel in the past two years.
The Oscars are voted on by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
As of 2024, the Academy had a total of 9,905 voting members.
Each member of the Academy belongs to one of 17 branches - eg. actors, editors and directors.
Each branch nominates for its own category, before all branches vote in the final round to determine the winners.
For most awards, the nominee who receives the most votes is declared the winner.
The process for Best Picture is more complicated, with voting members ranking the nominees from 1-10 from their favourite to their least favourite.
The film which receives 50% or more of first-choice votes is crowned the winner.
If no nominated film reaches the 50% threshold, the nominee with the fewest first-choice votes is eliminated with their votes transferred to their second-choice, with this process repeated until one film hits the 50% mark.
