The British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes is one four Group 1s on Ascot's high-class Champions Day card on Saturday, with the aim of crowning the leading lady in this division.
It has been won by the likes of Simple Verse, Magical and Emily Upjohn in the past, while Poptronic gave jockey Sam James a memorable triumph a year ago. A big field is set to line up in this year's running.
(Odds will display when market is available)
Ralph Beckett won this in 2015 and came close to doing so again last year with Bluestocking, and he relies on this four-year-old as she bids for a first Group 1 win.
She was a narrow winner of the Sandringham Stakes under her big-race rider Hector Crouch at Royal Ascot in June and the pair won a French Listed race over 1m2f last time.
However, she has never raced as far as this 1m4f trip before, although her breeding being by the legendary Sea The Stars and the great Treve, suggests she should handle it.
No German-trained horse has won this contest since it was switched to Ascot but trainer Andreas Suborics will be hoping to get that breakthrough with this four-year-old.
Having gone on a nine-race winless run, she ended her drought when a highly impressive winner of a Group 2 at Deauville in August, in which she beat the high-class Arrest by four lengths.
That came on very soft ground so she will relish the conditions, although she has been well-beaten in her tries in Group 1s before.
The Gosden yard have won this race three times in the last ten years and the daughter of Roaring Lion will be their only runner in the contest this year.
The four-year-old was highly progressive when winning a Group 3 and the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in the summer, but she flopped on her last run when eighth in the Yorkshire Oaks in August.
She has been given a break since to recover and she is certainly bred to win this, as she is out of 2015 winner Simple Verse.
A daughter of Sea The Stars representing William Haggas and Tom Marquand, she has struck twice in Listed company in her career, including impressively in France.
However, she has disappointed in two tries in Group 1 company since then, including at Longchamp this month, and has to prove she is up to this standard.
Sumiha will represent Dermot Weld, who won this race 12 years ago when Sapphire thrived in the mud.
The Aga Khan-owned filly is a lightly-raced Group 3 winner and took the eye when fourth at Leopardstown in September following a break. That is likely to have made her far fitter for this.
Thunder Roll will now be Joseph O'Brien's only runner in the race after Lumiere Rock was not declared for it on Thursday.
The four-year-old is a Listed winner who fared better on her second try in Group 1 company when fourth at Longchamp this month, but she has already been beaten twice by Sumiha this year.
Tiffany is a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver and she gets her first crack at Group 1 level under regular rider Luke Morris.
The four-year-old has won four of her last five starts, including when impressively landing a Baden Baden Group 2 last month.
Her only defeat came behind Queen Of The Pride at Haydock, but the softer ground may aid her chances of avenging that loss in this.
Trained by Harry Charlton and one of two runners for owners Juddmonte, Time Lock bids to give her trainer the first Group 1 triumph of his burgeoning career.
The five-year-old disappointed in this a year ago and had been beaten in her first three starts this year before an impressive win at Newmarket last time. She is still likely to need a career-best in this, though.
Village Voice will represent Jessica Harrington and could thrive in the expected testing conditions at Ascot.
While she is yet to run at this level, all four of her wins have come on soft ground or worse and she relished the very soft ground when a four-length winner at Saint-Cloud last month.
One of three contenders for Aidan O'Brien, the daughter of the late Galileo bids for a second Group 1 triumph of her career.
She was impressive when winning the Yorkshire Oaks in August, although she was bitterly disappointing when tenth in the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp this month.
However, she looks the main pick of the Ballydoyle runners as Ryan Moore has remained loyal to her.
The second of Aidan O'Brien's contenders, she also lines up like her stablemate Content as a Group 1 winner this season.
The three-year-old has won three times this season and took her form to a new level when landing the Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp this month under Christophe Soumillon.
That and her Group 3 win this year came over 1m6f and she drops in trip, with Soumillon booked for the ride again.
The other Juddmonte-owned runner in the field, Kalpana has gone from strength to strength this year and has blossomed into a live Group 1 contender.
Since two admirable defeats at Newmarket and Royal Ascot she has been hugely impressive with two wide-margin victories in the Glasgow Stakes and the Group 3 September Stakes.
This was immediately mooted as the target afterwards and William Buick is a notable jockey booking.
David Menuisier is a force to be reckoned with fillies and mares and he will be hoping this three-year-old can thrive at this time of the year again.
She outran her odds when third in the Oaks and must bounce back from a poor run in the Irish equivalent, but she did impressively beat Group 1 winner Sosie in a heavy-ground Listed race a year ago.
She is the final Aidan O'Brien-trained runner in the line-up and might be the third-choice on jockey bookings, with Sean Levey set to ride.
The three-year-old has progressed nicely this year, including when beaten only a neck in a Curragh Group 2 last month, but this will be her toughest test yet.
