Chelsea are understood to have made an approach to sign Danish goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen during the summer transfer window.

Filip Jorgensen is 22 years of age and was born on 16th April 2002.

The goalkeeper was born in Lomma, in Skane County, Sweden but joined Villarreal’s youth set-up at the age of 15.

Although he played for Sweden at Under 16 and Under 17 level, Jorgensen switched his allegiance to Denmark, who he qualifies for because of his Danish father.

What to expect from Filip Jorgensen

Height and build

At 6ft 3 ins, Jorgensen is an average height for a goalkeeper and has a similar stature to that of former Spain keeper David de Gea.

Preferred foot

The Danish Under-21 international is right footed and is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Style of play

Jorgensen has been used to playing out from the back for Villarreal, although the keeper likes to chip the ball forward to an intended target.

When he is faced with a one-on-one, Jorgensen is very good at making himself big and blocking attempts on goal.

Previous clubs

Jorgensen had spells with six different clubs during his youth career, including Malmo, Mallorca and Villarreal.

He made his debut for Villarreal B on 14th August 2022 in a Segunda Division clash with Racing Santander.

He made his first La Liga start for Villarreal on 30th January 2023, in a 1-0 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano.

International caps

The keeper, who has a Swedish mother, made two appearances for Sweden at Under-16 level before going on to play eight times for the Sweden Under 17s.

In May 2021, Jorgensen switched his allegiances to Denmark and made his debut for their Under 21s that same year.

Jorgensen has been a very steady performer for Villarreal, helping the Yellow Submarines to an eighth-place finish in 2023/24.
