Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt shares his prediction and tips for Sunday's 'Bad Blood' showdown between unbeaten heavyweight rivals Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke.
This is a terrific fight and one that's been talked about for a long time now. The rivalry has been building, slowly but surely, between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke and they settle their differences on Sunday.
Wardley goes into this fight as the 4/9 favourite at bet365 while Frazer Clarke, the Olympic bronze medalist, is priced at 7/4. I think this is a 50/50 fight and I don't think there are too many ways that you can go wrong before betting on this bout.
In Wardley we have someone who is more experienced as a professional and he's 17-0 with 16 knockouts, whereas Clarke is only 8-0. The professional experience does lie with Wardley but you cannot discount the sizeable amateur pedigree of Clarke.
I think it's fair to say Clarke hasn't really set the world alight as a professional but did get 10 very good rounds in against Mariusz Wach before stopping Dave Allen last time out; it was a bit of a pedestrian performance but still a dominant and conclusive win.
So where does the money go this weekend? I do feel this fight will end inside the distance, I cannot see it going to the final bell.
It's going to be between Wardley's explosive punching power early in the fight and whether he can stop Clarke from settling into that rhythm behind the jab. You have to remember that Clarke is the more schooled boxer, the more fundamentally sound of the two but the punching power does lie with Wardley.
Wardley has finished all but one of his professional opponents so far and I'm sure he'll be looking to do the same to Clarke this weekend. If I'm betting Wardley, I'm looking at him in the early rounds; you can get 11/4 for him to win in the first six rounds.
A measure of the value here on Clarke, you can get 15/2 on 'Big Fraze' to win in the second half of the fight, between rounds 7-12.
This is a fight with a lot of intangibles; there will be a lot of questions asked and answered. It is a 50/50 fight, and I've been seesawing from one side to the other since the bout was announced.
But for me, Clarke being 7/4 to win the fight is the value play and it's my pick for this weekend's contest.
