Three sides from outside the Football League have made it through to the FA Cup third round, and Dagenham & Redbridge will hope to make it four by winning at Gillingham in their second-round replay.
The Daggers' trip to Gillingham is one of two unsettled second-round ties, with Stockport County and Charlton Athletic also requiring a second bite following their 2-2 draw at The Valley.
What: Stockport County v Charlton Athletic
Where: Edgeley Park, Stockport
When: 19:45, Wednesday 7th December
How to watch: ITV4 & bet365 Sports Live Streaming
Odds: Stockport 1/1, Charlton 12/5, Draw 13/5
The prospect of a Wednesday night trip to Edgeley Park on a bitterly cold December evening must seem like punishment for Charlton, and it's a trek they probably don't fancy and could do without.
While World Cup fever is lifting spirits around England, a rot has set in at The Valley with the Addicks on a terrible run, the type of run that spells real danger ahead of this assignment.
Charlton, a league higher than Stockport, are 12/5 shots to win in normal time.
Leading County 2-1 in the home game and with injury time almost up, Myles Hippolyte levelled for the League Two side, sending hundreds of their fans into ecstasy and a couple of thousand Charlton fans heading for the exits with their tails between their legs.
That's now five without a win for Ben Garner's men, who have also been dumped out of the EFL Trophy by Plymouth. Charlton also suffered an ignominious 1-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham last Friday.
Charlton haven't kept a clean sheet in ten games, and in five of those fixtures they have conceded at least twice.
That has to be a major concern as they prepare to take on Stockport again with the Hatters now flying after a sticky start to life back in the Football League following promotion in the summer.
Dave Challinor's men are 12th in League Two and on the up with just one loss in ten in all competitions - a narrow defeat against high-flying Orient - and they warmed up for this assignment with a 5-0 romp at Hartlepool on Saturday.
Paddy Madden got his seventh in his last 12 games and is 9/2 to score first, while Stockport and both teams to score at 11/4 could be a way in given the home side's good form and the away side's inability to keep a clean sheet.
The winners will play Walsall at home in round three.
What: Gillingham v Dagenham & Redbridge
Where: Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham
When: 19:15, Thursday 8th December
How to watch: bet365 Sports Live Streaming
Odds: Gillingham 5/4, Dag & Red 2/1, Draw 12/5
While Stockport and Charlton fight over the relatively low-key prize of a showdown with Walsall, Gillingham and Dagenham & Redbridge have it all to play for with Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City waiting in round three.
Gillingham, as the League Two side playing at home, are 5/4 shots having survived a tricky ordeal at Dagenham at the first attempt.
They only avoided the upset courtesy of Scott Kashket's injury-time equaliser after Josh Walker had looked to have fired the National League side into the third round.
Since that tie, Neil Harris' Gills have suffered a humiliating 3-0 reverse at home by Salford in League Two, a result which leaves them one place off the foot of the table.
Dagenham were also beaten at home, losing 1-0 against Torquay, to end a three-game winning streak in the National League.
Clearly Football League survival rather than a cup run is Gillingham's main priority, though under-fire Harris will take any win in any competition with his position at Priestfield looking increasingly bleak.
The problem - and it's been thus all season - is an abject lack of goals.
They have failed to score in any of their last six League Two games and, incredibly, have managed just six goals all season.
They boast a defensive record the match of fourth-placed Barrow yet, by any measure, six goals netted after 20 matches is utterly woeful.
And it's that record which makes them massively vulnerable against a Dagenham side who have won four of their last six away ties and boast two players - Walker and Junior Morais - who have each scored more league goals than the entire Gillingham side.
