Hamilton has taken victory at 31 different circuits in his 17-year Formula 1 career but Zandvoort is a venue he's failed to crack since it returned to the calendar in 2021.

Instead it's been dominated by home favourite Max Verstappen, who has romped to wins in three consecutive years, much to the delight of his partisan support.

But this year could be different.

In previous seasons, Hamilton was either wrestling momentum, denied victory by a strategic error or labouring behind in an inferior Mercedes package.

The seven-time world champion arrives at the Dutch coastal town in his best form since the end of the 2021 season and a string of productive upgrades have thrusted Mercedes back into contention for race wins. Blend the two and it's a fruitful combination.

Cracking the Mercedes code

Would Hamilton have envisaged being in such a healthy position four months ago? As Mercedes struggled for performance, the 39-year-old would have taken solace in the form of his future employers, Ferrari.

The tide has shifted dramatically since then.

Making significant inroads with their W15, the Silver Arrows have overhauled the famous prancing horse and though they still lag behind Ferrari in the Constructors' standings, Mercedes have outscored the Italian manufacturer in six of the last seven races.

There were doubts as to whether Hamilton would ever be able to extract the maximum from the current generation of ground-effect cars. At the British Grand Prix before an adoring home crowd, he silenced his critics and finally unearthed the winning formula.

It was an exhibition of the precision and control he'd demonstrated throughout his career. Even as Verstappen ominously nibbled away at his advantage, it was a lead that Hamilton was never going to relinquish.

A huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and it was telling with the excellent standard of racing he produced in Hungary a week later. Hamilton was rewarded with a 200th podium, despite an epic duel with Verstappen which resulted in the pair making contact.

Mercedes excelled at Spa Francorchamps, though their success wasn't without controversy. Hamilton had manufactured a lead of his own but found himself staring at the rear wing of his teammate in the closing laps after George Russell opted to commit to a one-stop strategy, as opposed to the two-stop that Hamilton and his rivals stuck by.

Hamilton was visibly irked by the outcome, yet there was some form of salvation as Russell was later disqualified from the race for a weight infringement.

Silver Arrows in top form

With three wins from the last four races, form suggests Mercedes are the team to beat heading to the Netherlands.

The team are set to reintroduce the updated floor which they removed following Free Practice in Belgium. Opting to revert to the Silverstone-spec due to the similarities between the two circuits, Mercedes are hoping the new floor will enhance performance on an intricate circuit like Zandvoort.

Mercedes have adopted an aggressive aerodynamic approach for a track that demands a high level of downforce and they have proven in recent weeks they're competitive on a variety of track layouts.

Both Mercedes drivers finishing on the podium is priced at 7/2, while it's 4/1 that one of Hamilton or Russell takes the chequered flag at the Dutch Grand Prix.
