Las Vegas Grand Prix: Prediction, Tips and Odds

A chilly and windy Las Vegas Strip is set to play host to a potentially title-deciding Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend in round 22 of the 24-race world championship.

Three-time reigning world champion Max Verstappen arrives with a 62-point advantage over McLaren's Lando Norris and, if the Red Bull ace can preserve at least a 60-point lead after this race, he will head to Qatar next week with a fourth title in the bag.

Las Vegas Grand Prix betting tips and predictions

Oscar Piastri each-way - 14/1

Since muscling his way past his McLaren team-mate Norris on the opening lap of the Italian Grand Prix in September, Oscar Piastri has been asked to do all he can to help the Englishman's championship bid.

Those hopes are still alive, at least by a thread, so Piastri could well find himself having to give up position to Norris in Vegas, as he did during both the sprint and main race in Brazil last time.

However, at the prices, the exciting Aussie still looks worth taking each-way.

Piastri should really have won at Monza, but Charles Leclerc had Ferrari's tacticians to thank for landing a memorable 'home win' for the Scuderia.

However, next time out in Azerbaijan, Piastri denied Leclerc back-to-back victories with a superb overtaking move.

Norris had botched qualifying and therefore didn't come into play and that is just one of a number of instances where the Bristolian has wilted under pressure.

The McLaren number one had no answer to Verstappen's brilliance in the rain in Brazil last time out, despite having started from pole position.

However, the fact Norris was able to top qualifying following a dominant 1-2 performance in the dry sprint race suggests McLaren could be the team to beat this weekend.

Ferrari emerged from the mini-break before Texas with the advantage, with both Leclerc and Carlos Sainz picking up wins in the next two races.

However, they were a little disappointing in Brazil having gone well there last year, so that tempers enthusiasm about them returning to winning ways in Vegas, where Leclerc almost won last year.

Liam Lawson points finish - 2/1

Following his five-race cameo last year, Liam Lawson was brought in to replace the underperforming Daniel Ricciardo at RB after the Singapore Grand Prix and the New Zealander has made a huge impression in his three outings to date.

Jumping into an unfamiliar car late in the season is never easy and Lawson's task on his comeback in Texas was magnified by a grid penalty which left him starting 19th.

Strategy played a part in his progress to a ninth-place finish, but it was no less impressive and he was ninth again in incredibly challenging conditions in Brazil last time.

The midfield battle for points is always intense, but one of RB's mid-grid rivals, Williams, are likely to be suffering after three heavy crashes in Brazil.

Parts are at a premium in the cost-cap era, and the Williams machines that line up in Vegas are unlikely to be of a spec that the team would ideally like.

Over 18.5 finishers - 10/11

The last two races have seen a lower-than-average number of finishers, though two cars were eliminated before the first corner in Mexico, while two did not even make the start in Brazil.

Prior to that there had been a run of seven races in which at least 19 drivers were included in the official classification, meaning they completed at least 90% of the race distance.

While it's not forecast to be a particularly pleasant evening in Las Vegas, no rain is expected. Meanwhile, there is a fairly short run to a slow first corner, so that is unlikely to cause any retirements.

Indeed, at last year's inaugural race on the Strip Circuit there was a melee into turn one at the start, but everyone was able to get going again and 19 cars were classified as finishers.

Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hulkenberg were sidelined with mechanical trouble late on in the race, but anyone retiring after completing at least 45 laps is still classed as a finisher.

Reliability has been exceptionally high this year and overs backers could well be collecting again having missed out at the last two rounds.
