Lance Stroll enjoys a unique position in the cut-throat world of Formula 1 as his father Lawrence Stroll owns the Aston Martin team he competes for. As such, he remains on the grid after eight seasons in which he has never finished higher than 10th in the championship.
The Canadian driver is not devoid of talent and has had one pole position and three podium finishes in his 166 race starts, but he has been regularly overshadowed by his former world champion team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso.

Born in Montreal, Canada, Lance Stroll - real name Lance Strulovitch - is the son of billionaire businessman Lawrence Stroll.
As such, he has enjoyed a plentiful supply of funds to fuel his racing career but he showed he had the driving talent to make the most of his machinery in junior series and has had moments of success in his F1 career, including taking pole position for Racing Point in the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.
Lance Stroll began his junior karting career at the age of 10, with plenty of early success in Canadian series. He was sixth in the 2013 World Championship before moving up to race single-seater cars.
Stroll won the Italian F4 championship in 2014 and the Formula 3 European Championship in 2016, earning a move into F1 the following season.
Still a teenager, Stroll began his F1 career partnering Brazilian Felipe Massa in the Williams team. He failed to complete his first three races, but claimed his first points when coming ninth in his home race in the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix and took his first career podium finish when third in the following round in Azerbaijan.
He ended his debut season in 12th place with 40 points but was only 18th with six points when teamed up with Sergei Sirotkin the following year.
Following his father's purchase of the former Force India team, which became Racing Point, Stroll moved to the new team alongside Mexican Sergio Perez. He was 15th in his first season with a best finish of fourth in Germany, then 11th in 2020, but claimed two more podium finishes in Italy and the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain.
In 2021, the Racing Point team was rebranded as Aston Martin and Stroll had another new team-mate in former world champion Sebastian Vettel. He finished 13th, with a best placing of sixth in Qatar, and was 15th the following year, with sixth in Singapore his best effort.
In 2023 Stroll was joined by another former champion in Fernando Alonso and understandably has taken a back seat to the talented Spanish veteran over the last two seasons. He was 10th in the championship with a best finish of fourth in 2023, when Alonso managed fourth in the standings.
Last season, Stroll struggled after an early sixth place in Australia and finished 13th with only 24 points. The arrival of star designer Adrian Newey is expected to improve the well-funded team's fortunes in the years to come.
Stroll's best day in F1 was arguably his pole position in the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, when his skill in driving in low-grip conditions paid off in a wet session. He pitted from the lead on lap 36 of the race but front-wing damage led to him finishing only ninth.
His first podium at the age of 18 in the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix was impressive as he kept his head in a chaotic race after qualifying eighth, benefiting from other drivers' misfortunes and was only pipped by Valtteri Bottas for second place on the line.
The pick of his two 2020 podiums was his third place in Sakhir, when team-mate Sergio Perez won the race and Stroll made the top three despite starting only 10th.
2023 was the best season of Lance Stroll's career to date as the Aston Martin proved competitive, particularly in the first half of the year. He had five top-six finishes to place 10th with 74 points, although he had scored one more point when 11th in 2020.
Stroll holds Canadian and Belgian citizenship through his Canadian father and Belgian mother.
Stroll was born in Montreal, Canada and lives in Switzerland. He also has properties in Canada and the UK.
Lance Stroll's personal net worth is estimated to be in the region of £40 million.
Lance Stroll's results can be inconsistent but he is a capable performer on his day. One of his best assets is his ability to start races well and make up places on the first lap.
The analysis that Lance can reach and can feed back to the team is crucial to us. Lance is a lot more sensitive to things than I am. We benefit from each other in many different ways and this is a good thing.
Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin team-mate)
I’ve been surprised by his level, his speed, but the thing that surprised me the most is his feedback. You don’t usually get to see that with the young drivers.
Sergio Perez (former Racing Point team-mate)
