Max Verstappen etched his name into the record books by securing a fourth consecutive title in 2024, though it was far from straightforward in comparison to his previous successes.
McLaren's steep upward trajectory had thrust Lando Norris into title contention and though he was unable to sustain a charge for the drivers' title, both the Briton and his teammate Oscar Piastri combined for enough points to land the team a first constructors' championship since 1998.
They've maintained that form into the new season with Norris taking the chequered flag ahead of Verstappen in Australia, while Piastri led home a McLaren 1-2 in China.
Verstappen flipped the form book in Japan as he led from pole to claim maximum points at Suzuka, but McLaren's supremacy shone though in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Miami as Piastri recorded three successive victories.
The Australian's winning streak was halted by Verstappen at Imola, with the four-time world champion producing a masterclass to take the lead at the first corner before setting off into the distance.
Norris hit back in Monaco, securing his first triumph in the Principality to send a stark warning to Piastri and Verstappen of his title credentials, although Piastri looked sensational in Barcelona as he converted pole position into another race victory.
George Russell became the first driver outside the leading trio to win a race this season as he claimed the win in Canada, but the Austria/Britain double-header saw Norris fight back in the championship with back-to-back successes.
