Frustrated and disappointed by the level of performance at the start of the campaign, Mercedes have unearthed a competitive formula in their W15 package since the Monaco Grand Prix and are back fighting at the front for race victories.
The Silver Arrows have won three of the last four Grand Prix prior to the summer break, with George Russell capitalising on Max Verstappen's incident with Lando Norris in Austria before Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag at Silverstone.
A one-two was being celebrated in Belgium until Russell was disqualified post-race for a weight infringement, promoting teammate Hamilton to race victor.
Despite the ignominy of the error that cost Russell his second triumph of the season, Mercedes appear primed to push on and challenge for more race wins between now and the end of the campaign.
Their form is of a stark contrast to Ferrari's, who have gone backwards in comparison to their rivals.
The Italian manufacturer are 8/13 to finish above Mercedes and though they're currently 79 points ahead in the Constructors' standings, Ferrari have been outscored by their rivals in five of the last six races and the lack of progress has been a concern for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Having initially appeared the likeliest to challenge Red Bull at the summit, Ferrari now find themselves trailing McLaren, whose development in recent months has been nothing short of sensational.
But if it's of any consolation to Team Principal Fred Vassuer, his two drivers have consistently scored a hatful of points, even if they're struggling to find optimal performance.
Perhaps the most fascinating factor in the differing form is the pending switch of seven-time world champion Hamilton, who will leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the season.
A revigorated figure since his British Grand Prix triumph, Hamilton's form offers great encouragement that both he and Mercedes will finish the campaign strongly - and that could be an annoyance to his future employers.
