The Canadian Grand Prix takes centre stage in Formula 1 this weekend and it promises to an another enthralling battle in Montreal.

Oscar Piastri to win - 14/1

Whatever happens in this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen will leave Montreal at the top of the drivers' standings.

However, a season that started out looking like it would be a walkover for the three-time world champion has developed into a proper fight thanks to recent improvements from McLaren and Ferrari.

Red Bull ace Verstappen won four of the opening five races of the season, missing out only in Australia where he suffered a brake failure. 

But since then he has been beaten by Lando Norris in Miami, needed all his skill to hold off the charging McLaren driver at Imola and then was only sixth in Monaco last time out.

Local hero Charles Leclerc claimed the spoils in the principality and his Ferrari team have clearly made a significant step forward, but on a more conventional circuit like Montreal, McLaren could prove the stronger threat to Verstappen.

And while Norris will be looking to add to his Miami victory, there could be more value in siding with his team-mate Oscar Piastri.

The young Australian has been solid this season, finishing every race in the top eight apart from in Miami where he suffered damage while defending fourth place against Carlos Sainz's Ferrari.

Piastri has to wait longer than his more senior team-mate Norris to get his hands on McLaren's latest parts, but he is mature for his age and his confidence will have been boosted by finishing second in Monaco last time out.

He has outpaced Norris in qualifying at each of the last two races and was unfortunate not to take pole position at Imola. Given the speed of the car, it's not a stretch to say he could have won that race under slightly different circumstances.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has a history of providing drivers with their maiden victories - Lewis Hamilton being a notable example - and Piastri looks a decent bet to add his name to the list this weekend.

Max Verstappen to finish third - 15/4

Verstappen started the season with a record-equalling run of seven pole positions.

However, he was fortunate to reach that figure in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as he pipped the McLaren drivers by less than a 10th of a second after picking up a slipstream on his fastest lap which boosted his speed on the straight.

This year's Red Bull has looked harder to set up than its predecessors, with Verstappen frequently complaining throughout practice and a mixed weather forecast could make things even more challenging for the Milton Keynes-based outfit.

The car seems less stable on unconventional tracks, and while Monaco was an extreme example, Montreal is not a permanent racing facility either.

The circuit has been resurfaced recently, which should help, but there is a need to attack kerbs which could upset the Red Bull and leave Verstappen vulnerable.

It's hard to see him falling too far down the order but in the face of a stern challenge from McLaren and Ferrari, the Dutchman may have to settle for the final spot on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton top-six finish - 5/6

It is turning out to be another disappointing season for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, but the seven-time world champion has an affinity with the Montreal circuit and could pick up a top-six finish.

Hamilton finished sixth in Miami and Emilia Romagna, and wasted a chance to make that three in a row in Monaco last time when he didn't push hard enough on the first lap after his pitstop for fresh tyres.

The team have some new parts coming this weekend ,which they hope will help them edge closer to the intense battle at the front.
