Formula 1: British Grand Prix previous winners

The British Grand Prix is a staple of the Formula 1 calendar and we've compiled a list of the previous winners since the inaugural race in 1950.

The 1950 British Grand Prix was the first Formula 1 World Championship race ever held and was won by Alfa Romeo driver Giuseppe Farina at Silverstone.

Remaining at Silverstone for the next four years, the British Grand Prix would then alternate between Silverstone and Aintree until 1963 when the Merseyside circuit was replaced by Brands Hatch.

From 1963 to 1986, Silverstone hosted the British Grand Prix in odd-numbered years and Brands Hatch in even-numbered years, with both circuits witnessing several great champions triumph including Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, James Hunt and Alain Prost.

Nigel Mansell won the final British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in 1986 before Silverstone became the permanent residence of the race.

Overall, Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in British Grand Prix history having triumphed on nine occasions, which is a record for most F1 wins of a single race.

He is trailed by Clark and Prost, who have five wins apiece, while Mansell is close behind with four British Grand Prix successes between 1986 and 1992.

Brabham, Lauda and Michael Schumacher are three-time winners of the race.
