The Brazilian Grand Prix was introduced into the Formula One World Championship in 1973, a year in which Emerson Fittipaldi came out on top in his home nation.
In fact, the first three winners of the event were all Brazilian, with Austria's Niki Lauda the first non-Brazilian driver to win the race in 1976.
Alain Prost is the most successful driver at the event, winning the race on six different occasions, including back-to-back triumphs on two separate occasions (1984-1985 and 1987-1988).
Max Verstappen was the most recent winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix, renamed the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in 2021, taking his overall victory tally in this race to three.
