Frank Lampard was in charge of Everton at the start of 2022/23, eager to improve on a 16th-place finish in 2021/22.
However, they failed to win any of their opening six games - losing two and drawing four - and sat 18th when Lampard was sacked following a 2-0 loss at West Ham in January.
Dyche was drafted in and although he oversaw a 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal in his first game at the helm, the former Burnley boss struggled to pick up results consistently.
Everton went on to win five times under Dyche, losing seven and drawing six.
A run of one loss from their final five games, including a win on the final day over Bournemouth, was enough to keep them clear of the relegation zone by two points.
Everton haven't been too active in the transfer market this summer and that doesn't bode well if they want to kick on in 2023/24.
Ashley Young, who is now 38, has signed on a one-year deal and winger Arnaut Danjuma has joined the club on a season-long loan from Villarreal.
For a club that have been battling against relegation for two successive seasons, the squad clearly needs a revamp to try and boost their hopes of climbing up the standings.
Developments off the field, primarily the building of a new stadium, could also be placing extra pressure on the squad and manager as they look to ensure Premier League football is on the agenda when they move to Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium for 2024/25.
Enjoying a successful campaign will likely hang heavily on the shoulders of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who showed his class when scoring 16 league goals in 2020/21.
However, the England international has been restricted to just 34 league appearances over the past two seasons due to injury.
