Evanilson's red card rescinded following Bournemouth appeal

Bournemouth have been successful in their appeal of Evanilson's red card in the Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Sunday.

Premier League

Cherries forward Evanilson was dismissed in the clash with Ruben Amorim's men following a challenge on Noussair Mazraoui.

Referee Peter Bankes initially awarded the Brazilian a yellow card but was sent to the monitor for an on-field review and upgraded his decision to red.

A statement from the FA read: "An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Evanilson's three-match ban following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal."

The striker will now be available for Bournemouth's clash away at Arsenal on Saturday following the lifting of his suspension.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola was incensed by Bankes' decision to give Evanilson his marching orders.

“He slips, everyone sees that he slips," Iraola told the Bournemouth Echo.

“And even if you consider, no, it doesn't matter he has slips, because he doesn't catch him with the leg that goes high. He catches him with the leg that goes down on the floor and he referees, the referee referees the play.

"VAR supposedly has to be something super clear, super obvious. The VAR is the one who decides.

“And after, I want to see the process, how the process has gone. If they have shown him a still image, they have shown him all the play in real speed, the reason why he slips and that is the situation.

“It's difficult, very difficult to accept.”

Bournemouth's hopes of European qualification were consequentially affected as Rasmus Hojlund salvaged a point for United deep in stoppage time.

Failure to triumph on Sunday means Bournemouth have won only one of their previous nine Premier League matches and have now fell to 10th in the standings behind Fulham and Brighton.

Providing Crystal Palace don't win the FA Cup, an eighth-place finish in the Premier League may be enough to secure a place in the UEFA Conference League next season.

Evanilson's availability will be a huge boost for Bournemouth's run-in with the striker netting nine goals during his debut English top-flight campaign.

The Cherries face crunch fixtures against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City before rounding off the season at home to relegated Leicester City.
