Euros Most Assists Odds: Bruno Fernandes heads the market

Portugal's Bruno Fernandes is the narrow favourite to make the most assists at this summer’s Euros.

In what is a wide-open betting heat, no player is available at a single figure price, and only five players are priced shorter than 20/1, with Kevin De Bruyne and Kylian Mbappe available at 12/1.

In 2016, the first expanded Euros, a familiar name in Eden Hazard shared top assist honours with Wales’s Aaron Ramsey, both laying on four goals, with De Bruyne coming third with three.

Three players came joint-second in 2021 with three assists – Dani Olmo, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Luke Shaw – while the hugely unfancied Steven Zuber came out on top for Switzerland with four. Coming off the back of a season with Frankfurt, when he only made six starts and recorded three assists, Zuber laid on four for a Swiss side that scored four goals in the groups before coming from 3-1 down to knock France out on penalties.

bet365's Steve Freeth said: "A stellar line-up of superstars at the top of the market, but Switzerland's Steven Zuber topped the Most Assists list at Euro 2020 so there could be some big price value if punters look further down the list with Spain's Alex Grimaldo already proving to be very popular."

Looking ahead to this year’s tournament, Portugal and Belgium both look to have plenty of goals in them.

Portugal are now managed by the more adventurous Roberto Martinez in contrast to the conservative Fernando Santos, and in a group containing Georgia, Turkey and Czech Republic, the likes of Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao and Bruno Fernandes should create plenty of chances.

Belgium, too, don’t have an overly taxing group, with Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine and Kevin De Bruyne could fill his boots in the group stage with Jeremy Doku, Leandro Trossard, Johan Bakayoko as wide options and Romelu Lukaku and Lois Openda providing plenty of firepower.

As tournament favourites, England’s stars feature prominently in the betting, but we’ve seen manager Gareth Southgate typically favour solidity throughout his line-up as opposed to free-flowing creativity, and it may be what goals are scored are laid on by a combination of Foden, Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and more.
