It was a chastening night for Scotland as the Euros got underway with Germany running out 5-1 victors at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.
Joining the hosts' celebrations were punters, who've got off to an excellent start. bet365's Steve Freeth said: "There were no huge shocks on the opening night with Julian Nagelsmann's men putting a hapless Scotland to the sword,
"Young Player of the Tournament fancies Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala found the net in the first half to trigger our Early Payout Offer, with our Super Boost (Over 0.5 first half goals, boosted from 3/10 to Evs) landing inside 10 minutes before Kai Havertz opened his account from the spot just before half-time.
"Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can came off the bench to score with an Antonio Rudiger own goal denying Germany a clean sheet - and landing correct score bets of 5-1 at a top price of 40/1."
Jude Bellingham is understandably favourite for Young Player of the Tournament, but second and third favourites Musiala and Wirtz didn't harm their chances with first-half goals. Musiala in particular was outstanding, winning Player of the Match and having his price for Young Player of the tournament cut to 13/2.
With uncertainty as to who would be Nagelsmann's first-choice centre-forward prior to the tournament, there wasn't much to choose between Havertz and Fullkrug in the top goalscorer market, though Havertz was cut from 33/1 to 25/1 when it became apparently he was likely Nagelsmann's pick, and the Arsenal man is into 14/1 after getting off the mark against Scotland from the spot.
While few expected anything other than a Germany win on Friday night, the manner of the victory, and the gentle reminder from Nagelsmann that he can bring the likes of Fullkrug, Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller off the bench, has seen the hosts' price to win this summer's Euros cut to 9/2.
