British cyclist Ethan Hayter is priced at 5/2 to take Olympic gold in the men's omnium.
(Odds will display when market is available)
Hayter came agonisingly close to leading Team GB to glory in the men's team pursuit as he slipped off his saddle on the final lap and Australia emerged triumphant.
You may have forgiven Hayter for holding back with the omnium in mind, but the 25-year-old gave it everything as they delivered Team GB's 1,000th medal in the history of the Olympic Games.
A two-time omnium world champion, Hayter has form in the event heading into the Olympics having clinched the omnium title at the Track Nations Cup in April.
Hayter's main competitor comes in the shape of home favourite Benjamin Thomas (12/5), who narrowly missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics after a disappointing showing in the points race.
The Frenchman won silver at the 2023 World Championships behind Iuri Leitao and the Portuguese cycling sensation is 9/2 to take victory in the omnium.
Matthew Walls stormed to gold for Great Britain in Tokyo with 153 points and Hayter will be looking to emulate his former teammate in Paris.
Track cycling can sometimes be confusing and omnium is arguably the most complicated of the lot.
In the omnium, there are four different races, each with varying requirements that demand a great degree of consistency.
The overall winner of the omnium is the rider who has accumulated the most points at the end of the four races.
Victors in the scratch, tempo and elimination race earn 40 points, second place receives 38 points and the number of points awarded descends by two with every position. In those three races, riders must complete at least 40 laps.
The points race is where it gets interesting.
Riders must complete 100 laps and five points is awarded to the competitor who finishes first, three points for second, two for third and one for fourth. Riders are awarded points for the mid-race sprints and double points is on offer in the final sprint of the race.
In addition to that, 20 points is on offer for riders that lap the field, however if a rider is lapped by everyone else, they have 20 points subtracted from their overall total.
