Esports: LPL Spring Wednesday Preview

Action is heating up in China's LPL League as they take to battle in League of Legends Spring Split. The 2023 LPL Season has plenty of power teams looking to climb to the top of the LOL World.

Wednesday is the third day of action in Week 5 of the Spring Split, with four teams looking to improve their current standing in the 17-team league. This marks the 11th season of the LPL and most of the teams in the league have proven to be some of the best League of Legend teams in the world.

With only a handful of weeks remaining in the round-robin stage, teams that have had a slow start to the 2023 season will be trying to make some late moves towards the playoffs of this Spring Split.

A lot of bragging rights are on the line on Wednesday's schedule of matches. Let's dive into the matchups set for Wednesday.

BLG should cover easily

It has not been a good start to 2023 for Anyone's Legend as they have failed to win a match up until this point. They come into their next match at the Spring Split with a 0-6 record. This team hasn't had much success to talk about in the past two seasons.

There were promising signs with a 5-8 place finish at the Demacia Cup 2022, but that doesn't look like it is holding much weight.

The team only has one map win in their last seven maps played overall. That win came in their 2-1 loss against Rare Atom in their most recent match.

Their opponent in this match-up is Bilibili Gaming, another team that isn't near the top of the 17-team standings but who still have a chance of making a big run. They will need to avoid a surprise defeat against Anyone.

BLG is coming off three-straight top three finishes in their last three Tournaments, including winning the 2022 Demacia Cup.

They have had a tough schedule thus far in the 2023 Spring Split with their last match resulting in a 2-1 loss against Team WE. They were able to pick up wins against Weibo Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix in the two matches before that.

BLG needs Bin and Co to make all the right plays to avoid a slip up against Anyone's Legend. BLG is a clear favourite to not only cover at 1/2, but also win the match outright.

Edward Gaming is a must bet

OddsJD (-1.5) 1/1, Edward Gaming (+1.5) 8/11

The last match on Wednesday has plenty of excitement around it. JD Gaming and Edward Gaming will face-off in a must-see match. Both teams are in the top five of the standings and both could really gain ground on the top team in the league with a win.

JD Gaming sits tied for third with a 4-1 record, while Edward Gaming also has a 4-1 record.

JD had a very productive 2022 season including a top four finish at Worlds 2022. That came after they won the Summer Playoffs of LPL.

They need to get back in rhythm after poor showings at the two offseason events they partook in. 369 and Missing have really been the driving force for the team along with the longest tenured player Kanavi who has been with the organization since 2019.

Looking at Edward Gaming, they are also coming off a Worlds 2022 appearance as they finished in the 5-8th place at that major. They followed that up with a 2-0 win over FunPlus Phoenix to win NEST 2022 heading into the offseason. The team's lone loss thus far at this event came against Invictus Gaming who they really couldn't get much rhythm going against as they lost 2-0.

For JD Gaming, they suffered their lone defeat against Weibo Gaming. Both of these teams have lost to a team that is further down the standings, so both teams are very comparable in this match.

This match could go either way, and that makes it a tough call. Nonetheless Edward Gaming has won most of the last five head-to-head matches. Therefore Edward Gaming +1.5 seems the right move.
