League of Legends Esports World Cup 2024: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Esports World Cup, featuring a series of tournaments in multiple Esports disciplines, is in full flow and the League of Legends tournament should be especially intriguing.

Set to get underway in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, the League of Legends Esports World Cup features eight teams from across the globe and has a prize pool of $1 million.

Gen.G Esports and T1 are the South Korean representatives, Bilibli Gaming and Top Esports feature for China, G2 Esports and Fnatic are the EMEA region's teams and Team Liquid and FlyQuest represent North America.

The format is simple with the teams playing in a straight knockout competition, starting with the quarter-finals and semi-finals, which will be in a best-of-three format. The final will be best-of-five.

Bilibili Gaming to win - 11/4

One way to assess potential competitors in this event is by looking at the Mid-Season Invitational.

The MSI pitted some of the best League of Legends teams from across the world against each other and it is a similar scenario in this World Cup competition.

During the MSI it was South Korean giants Gen.G Esports who came out on top, so it is easy to see why they are 8/11 to win this tournament.

But Bilibili Gaming of China also reached the final of that event, beating South Koreans T1 in the lower-bracket final before narrowly losing 3-1 to Gen.G.

Therefore, at 11/4 Bilibili Gaming could offer some value to go the distance in this eight-team tournament.

They find themselves on the opposite half of the draw to Gen.G Esports, so will not have to face them until the final, but they should be kept warm by a testing opener against T1 - which likely plays into their outright price.

The LPL Summer has yet to get underway in China but in the LPL Spring, there was no doubting that Bilibili Gaming were the standout team in the region.

They won the playoffs after a superb regular season in which they won 15 of their 16 assignments and they look comfortable on the bigger stages.

LPL to be winning region - 2/1

Thinking along similar lines to the first bet, a wager on China's LPL to be the winning region at the League of Legends Esports World Cup could also offer value at 2/1.

Bilibili Gaming are the standout team from China and will carry the region's hopes of winning the event but the other LPL side Top Esports should also not be written off.

Top Esports only made it to the second round of matches at the MSI earlier this year but they bowed out of the upper bracket in style, pushing Gen.G Esports close in a 3-2 defeat before dropping down to the lower bracket.

They were subsequently beaten by G2 Esports but they remain a solid unit, who posted a 13-3 win-loss record in the LPL Spring earlier this year.

LCK lead the way in the betting to be the winning region at the League of Legends Esports World Cup at 4/9 but that is mostly because of Gen.G Esports.

And fellow LCK outfit T1 were by no means barnstorming at the MSI, having failed to make it beyond the lower-bracket final after a 3-2 defeat to Bilibili Gaming.
