Esports: Icelandic Esports League previews

It is not much longer until the likes of the IEM Katowice and the ESL Pro League are back but in the meantime, those craving some Counter Strike: Global Offensive action can turn their attention to the Icelandic Esports League.

The division may not be the most high-profile on the continent but the games continue to come thick and fast as teams bid to make the top four and the consequent playoffs.

It was back in September that the regional division began and the C-Tier event will continue into February.

Thursday marks the conclusion of the round 12 matches with TEN5ION firstly taking on LAVA before highflyers Atlantic Seafood lock horns with Saga and in the final game of the day Viostoou clash with Breioablik.

The teams that finish between fifth and eighth will move to the Challenger Cup, whereas the team which ends up bottom of the pile will be demoted directly to Division One.

Lowly TEN5ION can make LAVA work

OddsTEN5ION 5/2, Lava 2/7

TEN5ION have been far and away the worst team in season seven of the Icelandic Esports League.

After 11 matches, they are rooted to the foot of the standings with one win and ten defeats to their name and a differential of -54 which suggests they are simply out of their depth.

That said, their only win of the campaign came quite recently against fellow strugglers Fylkir, who they overpowered 16-10, and before that they lost narrowly by a 16-11 scoreline to SAGA.

Their upcoming opponents LAVA Esports are going well in the mid-table positions and have a serious shot at the playoffs but their confidence may have taken a knock when they lost by nine rounds to Atlantic Seafood last time out.

With all that considered, it could be worth backing TEN5ION to keep it tighter than expected and they could represent value at +4.5 on the rounds handicap at 4/5.

Similarly, a bet on them at +2.5 rounds in the first half of map one at 5/6 could be worth backing.

Pacesetters Atlantic Seafood fancied to overcome SAGA

OddsAtlantic Seafood 2/7, SAGA 5/2

Atlantic Seafood are the pacesetters in this year's CS:GO Icelandic Esports League, sitting top of the pile after 11 matches.

They have won nine of their 11 assignments so far this term, racking up an eye-watering +52 differential in the process and they are well on course for a spot in the playoffs.

In their most recent contest in round 11, Atlantic Seafood ran out comfortably 16-7 winners against mid-table LAVA Esports and next up are a SAGA Esports team who are clear of the bottom two but outside of the top four.

A couple of wins for SAGA could change that, though, and it is worth noting this team were semi-finalists in the last season of the Icelandic Esports League in April last year.

Form is on the side of Atlantic Seafood, who are understandably 2/7 to win, but a bet on the first map to feature over 26.5 rounds could be worth taking with SAGA unlikely to go down easily.

Breioablik could have the edge in tight encounter

WhatViostoou vs Breioablik, CS:GO Icelandic League
WhereOnline
When21.30, Thursday 5th January
OddsViostoou 4/5, Breioablik 10/11

The most competitive betting heat of the day sees Viostoou clash with Breioablik.

It is understandable why the teams are so closely rated with Breioablik having put up a 6-5 win-loss record and Viostoou putting up a 5-6 record, meaning only two points separate the teams in the overall standings.

Both are on the cusp of the playoff berths and this could be a key matchup in the grand scheme of things.

Ultimately, though, Breioablik have the much better round differential at +11 compared to Viostoou's -19 and are also fresh from a very comfortable win over Armann.

They could be worth chancing at 10/11, having won the last meeting between the sides in September.
