It is time for the first ESL One event of the year on the DOTA2 circuit as the ESL One Birmingham takes centre stage.
With a prize pool of $1,000,000, it is a tournament not to be missed with the teams involved also competing for crucial ESL Pro Tour Points which can lead them to the Riyadh Masters at the end of the year.
The teams begin the event divided into two groups of six teams with the top four in each set to advance to the double-elimination bracket play-offs.
From Team Spirit to Gaimin Gladiators, there are a number of big names set to be involved in the first ESL One event of the season.
But at 11/4, it is Team Falcons who stand out in the outright betting.
The side from the MENA region have enjoyed a rapid ascension in 2024, having triumphed at the DOTA2 DreamLeague Season 22 in March.
Team Falcons were impressive throughout that event, comfortably winning the second group stage with seven wins from seven games.
And they rose to the occasion when it really mattered, easing to a 3-0 win over BetBoom Team in the competition's Grand Final.
With that tournament triumph, they made it 23 series wins in a row and, although they did not come out on top, they also impressed in the DOTA2 Elite League earlier this month, finishing second and securing $150,000 in the process.
Although Team Falcons are relatively new to such success, their roster is loaded with experienced talent, including Andreas "Cr1t!" Nielsen and Ammar "ATF2 Al-Assaf, who are both former champions of The International with Tundra Esports.
The roster is well prepared for this event with Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan allocated as the team's replacement player, likely for midlaner Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak and they look worthy favourites in Birmingham.
Thinking along the same lines as before, Team Falcons are a solid bet at 10/11 to win Group A.
They steer clear of Xtreme Gaming and look stronger than the other sides in their section.
They also showed their class in the group stage of the recent Elite League, topping Group A with four wins from their seven assignments.
Also joining them in Group A in Birmingham are Team Liquid, G2.iG, BB Team, Shopify Rebellion and Talon Esports.
Ordinarily, Group B at the ESL One Birmingham may look more competitive - but a number of big hitters have been underperforming of late, including Team Spirit.
Since their triumph at The International 2023, Spirit have gone off the rails a bit and they are unlikely to cause Xtreme Gaming too many issues in Group B.
Xtreme Gaming have been one of the closest competitors of Team Falcons recently, taking them down in the Grand Final of the Elite League 3-1 earlier this month.
They also went unbeaten in the group stage of that event and are a comfortably stronger outfit than other sides in their section, such as Gaimin Gladiators, Tundra Esports, OG and Heroic.
OG look the most likely of those sides to cause a problem with two-time The International winner Sebastien "Ceb" Debs leading the way but Xtreme are nonetheless the team to beat.
