Call of Duty Esports World Cup: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Call of Duty League season may be in the rearview mirror but fans of the Esport still have another big competition to look forward to this year - the Call of Duty event at the Esports World Cup.

Having started back in June, the Esports World Cup is an ongoing multi-game tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with a prize pool of $60 million.

And the inaugural edition of the Esports World Cup has already featured tournaments in Esports such as Dota 2, Counter Strike 2 and League of Legends.

But starting Thursday, it is the turn of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 event at the Esports World Cup with $1.8 million on the line and 16 teams competing in the S-Tier competition.

Among the teams in contention are usual Call of Duty League suspects such as OpTic Gaming, Atlanta FaZe and Cloud9, but there are also smaller teams such as Gentle Mates and Stallions involved in the event.

Call of Duty Esports World Cup betting tips and predictions

OpTic Gaming to win - 9/4

It makes sense for punters to use this year's Call of Duty League as an indicator for which teams should excel in the Esports World Cup event, especially as it will once again be Modern Warfare 3 which takes centre stage.

And with that in mind, OpTic Gaming are the headline selection.

The beauty of an event like this is that minor organisations like the aforementioned Gentle Mates get to mix it with the big boys, but it is realistically only the CDL teams with a realistic shot at glory.

And few head into this event in better shape than OpTic Gaming, who won the Call of Duty League Championship on their own patch in Texas only last month, defeating New York Subliners 3-2 in the Grand Final.

They were not top of the regular season standings but they still finished with a 29-16 win-loss record in matches and they performed when it counted the most.

En route to the title this year, OpTic were also crowned winners of the Stage Three Major and that was an event hosted by Toronto Ultra, showing they do not only perform well in their own backyard.

Atlanta FaZe are 2/1 favourites to go the distance in this Esports World Cup tournament but they have not won a major event since the Stage Two Major back in March and are worth swerving.

Cloud9 to win - 5/2

Casual spectators of the CDL will notice that Cloud9 are among the favourites in this Esports World Cup event, despite having not featured in the CDL this season.

But that is because Cloud9 will be returning to the CDL in the near future after acquiring New York Subliners, who have been one of the most impressive teams on the circuit in the last few years.

This season just gone, the Subliners won the Stage Four Major before reaching the Grand Final at the Call of Duty League Championship, showing that they are one of the in-form teams in the world of Call of Duty.

At 5/2, therefore, they are another team worth backing for those who want to oppose frontrunners FaZe.
