We take a look at the most impressive Epsom Derby records.

To hold a record in a race that has taken place across four different centuries is some achievement and we've dug through the history books to pick out some of the greatest feats accomplished in the Epsom Derby.

Horse Racing

Most Epsom Derby wins as a trainer

Unsurprisingly, Aidan O'Brien has trained the most winners of the Epsom Derby.

He again claimed success in 2024 when City Of Troy delivered a landmark 10th Derby win for the trainer.

Galileo (2001) gave the Irishman his first success before High Chaparral (2002) made it back-to-back race victories for O'Brien.

After being made to wait an entire decade before striking again, O'Brien has won eight of the last 12 renewals.

Camelot (2012), Ruler Of The World (2013), Australia (2014), Wings Of Eagles (2017), Anthony Van Dyck (2019), Serpentine (2020), Auguste Rodin (2023) & City Of Troy (2024) make up the outstanding roll of honour.

Most Epsom Derby wins as a jockey

Lester Piggott is considered to be, by many, the greatest jockey of all-time and no one has ridden more than his nine Epsom Derby winners.

During a lengthy career, nearly 30 years passed between Piggott's first and last wins in the race.

Never Say Die (1954) provided him with his maiden success and Teenoso (1983) gave him his ninth and final win just two years prior to his retirement.

Fastest Epsom Derby winner

Workforce officially recorded the fastest time when winning the Derby at Epsom Downs.

Ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by the great Sir Michael Stoute, he crossed the line in an exceptionally fast time of 2m 31.33s.

It wouldn't be the last time Workforce registered a landmark victory either as he went on to claim Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe just four months later.

Widest margin of victory in the Epsom Derby

Sir Michael Stoute can not only claim to have trained the fastest Derby winner but he also handled Shergar who won the race by the furthest distance.

The 1981 winner stormed past Glint Of Gold under Walter Swinburn, opening up a 10-length gap by the time he hit the winning line.

Most Epsom Derby winners sired

With five of his progeny claiming victory, Galileo has sired the most winners in Epsom Derby history.

Ruler Of The World (2013) and Australia (2014) gave him the first of two back-to-back successes in the mid 2010s with Anthony Van Dyck (2019) and Serpentine (2020) landing the race in consecutive years at the turn of the decade.

New Approach (2008) was Galileo's first winner - seven years after the sire himself landed the Epsom Classic.

Longest-priced Epsom Derby winner

Three horses - Jeddah (1898), Signorinetta (1908) and Aboyeur (1913) - all won the race at a triple-figure price of 100/1.
