Aussie Rules: English stars in Bulldogs win

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge saluted the performance of Tim English after the ruckman dominated in Thursday night’s win over the Sydney Swans.

The Bulldogs are priced at 8/1 to win the 2022 AFL grand final and are finally up and running for the campaign following the 11-point win.

English stars

English was the best on ground with 24 disposals, eight marks, eight clearances, 28 hitouts and a game-high 12 score involvements and Beveridge was quick to praise him after the game.

The Bulldogs coach also says the player is still learning and will get even better in the years to come.

"He's had some games where he's had some tremendous influence but I thought he was dominant tonight and that's important for him and us," Beveridge told reporters after the game.

"As I said in the pre-match presser, he's searching for his presence around the source and he gave us stability. He won the hitout count which is terrific for him and for us. He had a big influence on the game."

Flat Swans

Meanwhile Sydney Swans coach John Longmire found it difficult to put his finger on why his side could not get to the levels they all expect.

The Swans were on a high last week after Lance Franklin kicked his 1000th career goal and it could have been a case of after the lord mayor’s show.

"Who knows? How do you know? We've got a young team and you talk about it and try to get yourself [up] but it's hard to put a finger on it. It looked like we were off the pace," he said.
