England v Scotland: Prediction, Tips and Odds

England face Scotland for the first time in a T20 international on Tuesday and Jos Buttler's men are desperate to avoid a slip-up at the Kensington Oval, venue for their opening Group B fixture at the T20 World Cup.

England v Scotland betting tips and predictions

Over 36 runs at fall of first England wicket @ 21/20

On paper, T20 World Cup holders England should enjoy a comfortable opening assignment against Scotland in Barbados.

The Scots won all six of their qualifying matches for the tournament but facing 2022 champions England is a huge step up from competing with European rivals such as Germany, Jersey, Italy, Austria and Denmark.

However, thunderstorms are forecast to disrupt Tuesday's game in Bridgetown and England came unstuck in a rain-affected clash with Ireland at the last T20 World Cup, losing by five runs on the DLS method.

Captain Jos Buttler will be determined to swerve a similar mishap against the Scots, especially after England's dismal defence of the ODI World Cup in India last autumn.

They lost six of their first seven matches, scuppering any chance of making the semi-finals, but Buttler and opening partner Phil Salt should set the tone at the top of the order on Tuesday.

Salt had a cracking IPL campaign for champions Kolkata Knight Riders while Buttler warmed up for the World Cup with scores of 84 off 51 balls and 39 off 21 in last month's home wins over Pakistan, who were runners-up at the 2022 tournament.

The England openers relished their last visit to the Kensington Oval, sharing a stand of 77 in just 6.1 overs against the West Indies in December, and they can lay down a marker against underdogs Scotland.

Brandon McMullen to score most sixes for Scotland @ 9/2

Durban-born all-rounder Brandon McMullen made his T20 international debut for Scotland in last year's World Cup qualifying tournament in Edinburgh.

After a couple of low scores at number five, he moved up to number three in the batting order and slammed 96 off just 50 balls against Italy, hitting six sixes.

McMullen has got past 10 in only three of his first nine T20 innings but he has already shown he has the power for international cricket, clearing the ropes five times during a 35-ball knock of 68 against Ireland last summer.

The Irish bowling attack was the strongest he faced in qualifying so he looks capable of landing the odd blow against England and is an appealing price to hit the most sixes for Scotland on Tuesday.

Bradley Currie to take 1+ wicket @ 8/11

Scotland fast bowler Bradley Currie made an impressive T20 Blast debut for Sussex against Hampshire last summer, dismissing England international James Vince with his second delivery and finishing with figures of 3-27.

Currie has also made a promising start to his international career, claiming 19 wickets in 11 T20 outings for Scotland.

The highlight was a stunning burst of 5-13 against Ireland in Edinburgh, where his victims included the top four Irish batters, and he picked up 3-7 against the UAE in Dubai in March.

Currie dismissed Sybrand Engelbrecht and Scott Edwards, two of the Netherlands' best batters, in The Hague in May and took two wickets in Friday's warm-up game against Afghanistan, so he is worth a bet to pick up at least one English scalp on Tuesday.
