England Euros Squad Odds: Anthony Gordon 5/4 after making Three Lions debut

Impressing on his England debut against Brazil, Anthony Gordon is 5/4 to feature in Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024.

In an experimental attacking three, Gordon staked his claim for a seat on the plane to Germany in the summer with an assured performance from the left flank.

The Newcastle United winger exhibited his impressive work ethic and produced glimpses of his incisiveness in the attacking third, with one goal-bound effort unluckily deflected wide.

Competition for places in the attacking areas of Southgate's squad is intense and despite defeat, Gordon did his Euro prospects no harm.

England may have been blunted by an organised Brazilian defence but some of their best work came from Gordon's flank.

The 23-year-old often linked up well with Jude Bellingham and provided adequate cover for Ben Chilwell, who endured a difficult night against the lively Raphinha.

An injury to Bukayo Saka presented Gordon with an opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage and he was picked ahead of Marcus Rashford, Jarrod Bowen and James Maddison.

Another contender in that position is Cole Palmer, who was forced to miss Saturday's encounter with the Selecao due to injury, while Southgate will be keeping a close eye on the fitness of Jack Grealish as he continues his rehabilitation following a groin issue.

With nine goals and five assists so far this term, Gordon's form in the Premier League merited a chance in the England squad and the former Everton academy graduate embraced the occasion.

"Tonight was the best day of my life," Gordon told Channel 4 after the match. "I envisioned it a bit different with a win and a goal. I thought we were the better team but we lacked that cutting edge that they had at the end.

"This is my long-term dream I have had. To achieve it means everything to me."

It's anticipated that Gordon will get another chance to don an England shirt on Tuesday when the Three Lions welcome Belgium to Wembley.
