As Gareth Southgate prepares to whittle down his final squad for the Euros, we examine the defensive options at the England manager's disposal.
Right-back can be identified as one of this England team's most stacked positions in terms of depth of quality at the moment, with versatile trio Kyle Walker (1/16), Kieran Trippier (1/10) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (1/5) all odds-on to be on the plane to Germany this summer.
Chelsea captain Reece James (3/1) faces a race against time to prove his fitness to Three Lions boss Southgate having spent the majority of this Premier League campaign sidelined by injury, whilst Man City youngster Rico Lewis (3/1) may find it tough to squeeze into the reckoning given the level of competition in this position.
Arguably one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season, Arsenal's Ben White (4/1) looks unlikely to be part of England's travelling party to Germany after reportedly refusing a call-up to the squad for the recent friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, but the 26-year-old may yet have a change of heart and turn Southgate's head.
At the heart of England's defence, stalwarts John Stones (1/10) and Harry Maguire (1/7) look assured of a place in Southgate's final squad for this summer's Euros, whilst the versatile Joe Gomez (8/13), experienced Lewis Dunk (8/11) and promising Jarrad Branthwaite (10/11) are all also rated odds-on shouts to make the cut.
As for the outsiders, Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi (6/5) has been a regular in England squads in recent years and could force his way back in should he recover from a knee injury before the end of the Premier League season, whilst Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa (5/4) impressed in the Three Lions' recent double-header of Wembley friendlies.
Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill (6/4) is also one to watch having been called up for England's original squad to face Brazil and Belgium in the last international break before pulling out due to a toe injury, whilst Liverpool breakout star Jarell Quansah (20/1) represents a wildcard option for Southgate in defence.
Left-back is a position in which England have a relative dearth of options from which to pick from at present, with injury-troubled pair Ben Chilwell (2/5) and Luke Shaw (8/11) both odds-on to represent their country in Germany this summer.
Aside from these two seasoned internationals, the only other two natural left-backs who appear capable of staking a claim for England selection ahead of the Euros are Crystal Palace's dependable Tyrick Mitchell (20/1) and one of the Championship's top performers this season in the form of Ipswich Town's Leif Davis (33/1).
Given the lack of top level natural left-backs in his selection pool at present, England manager Southgate is likely to lean on the likes of Kieran Trippier, Joe Gomez and Levi Colwill as cover in this position.
