Selected to replace the injured Mark Wood, Josh Hull is the latest to player earn a maiden call-up to the England senior Test squad.
A left-arm quick with limited red-ball experience, Hull's selection is the result of England's bold identification process as the Test side undergoes a major rebuild in preparation for the 2025/26 Ashes series.
Hull is understood to have been on England's watchlist for over a year and the bowler impressed on debut for the Lions against Sri Lanka in August, taking five wickets in a routine win for England's second-string side.
Here's everything you need to know about England's latest Test addition.
Born on 20 August 2004, Hull is 20 years old.
Hull was born in the market town of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
Growing up on a farm, Hull dreamt of becoming a rugby player before venturing into cricket during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In terms of other notable sporting residents, Huntingdon is the birthplace of Northampton Saints and England fullback George Furbank, while former footballer Darren Bent also grew up there.
Hull plays for Leicestershire and was selected by the Manchester Originals for the 2024 edition of The Hundred.
Graduating from the club's academy setup, Hull signed professional terms with Leicestershire as an 18-year-old in 2022.
He made his first-class debut in April 2023, where he took the wicket of former England opener Adam Lyth with his fourth delivery, and bowled the final over to ensure victory for Leicestershire in the One-Day Cup final against Hampshire.
Standing at 6ft 7in, Hull's imposing frame and left-arm angle make him a unique asset to England's bowling attack.
Possessing a solid yorker and the ability to swing the ball in late, the 20-year-old has consistently bowled between 82-84 mph, though England's managing director Rob Key believes Hull has all of the ingredients to deliver at speeds in excess of 90mph.
That potential, coincided with the bounce he is able to generate from his impressive height, is why Brendon McCullum is keen to sample his ability in the Test team.
Hull's selection certainly raised eyebrows considering the 20-year-old has a bowling average of 182.5 in Division Two of the County Championship in 2024.
For Leicestershire, Hull has taken 11 wickets at an average of 84, but found good form in this year's T20 Blast, claiming 18 wickets in 14 appearances for the Foxes.
Against Sri Lanka for the Lions, Hull recorded his best bowling figures with 5/74.
He made two appearances for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred, posting figures of 0/20 and 0/31 in matches opposing the Southern Brave and Welsh Fire respectively.
