Cheltenham - Racing: Elliott eyes Allaho upset

Gordon Elliott believes that Conflated has the form in the book to serve it up to last year's winner Allaho in Thursday's Ryanair Chase.

The eight-year-old took his form to the next level when winning last month's Grade 1 3m½f Irish Gold Cup, his first top level success from three goes over fences in the class, by six and a half lengths from last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Minella Indo.

Ryanair over Gold Cup

Connections have opted to run in Thursday's 2m4½f Grade 1 rather than attempt Friday's showpiece, with him 13/2 to win the Ryanair Chase, which will be available on the Sports Live Streaming hub.

A field of nine has been declared with Conflated a 13-2 shot. Last year's runaway winner Allaho, who has won his last three starts over the distance claiming two Grade 1s and a Grade 2 to boot, at 4/6.

Elliott's charge has had 11 starts over fences and has plenty of form over the shorter trip.

These include winning a Navan handicap on his penultimate start by five lengths and also taking a Naas Grade 3 novice chase in December by 21 lengths.

Belief in an upset

The 44-year-old believes that last year's 12-length winner will be a tough opponent but believes his charge can provide more than a fair account of himself.

"Everybody is up against it with Allaho in here but Conflated produced a proper Grade 1 performance last time," he said.

Elliott has no worries about dropping in trip adding: "He was very good over this trip at Navan in December, albeit at a much lower level. He definitely has his chance."
