Founded in 1937, the Eliteserien is the top professional league in Norway and is contested by 16 clubs.
The 2025 season of the Eliteserien commences on 29th March and concludes on the 29th November.
Like many European leagues, Eliteserien sees the whole league play each other once at home and once away over the course of a 30-match season.
The team that finishes first are crowned league winners and receive qualification for the UEFA Champions League play-off round.
The bottom two teams in the league will be automatically relegated, with the team that finishes 14th competing in a relegation play-off against the club that finishes 3rd in the First Division.

Though founded in 1937, the Eliteserien only turned professional in 1992.
Expanded to 14 teams in 1995, the division underwent another makeover in 2009 with 16 teams declared to compete in the Eliteserien.
Since its establishment as a one-group top flight in 1963, forty-eight clubs have competed in Eliteserien.
Rosenborg are the most successful club in Eliteserien history with 26 titles and the Troillongan remain the only club to complete a season undefeated.
