EFL Cup 2024/25 Outright Odds: Manchester City 11/4 favourites

Manchester City have been installed as 11/4 favourites for the 2024/25 EFL Cup.

It's a competition City have dominated since Pep Guardiola's arrival. The Citizens won the EFL Cup in 2014 and 2016 prior to Guardiola stepping into the dugout, and while his first season in Manchester was trophyless, the City boss won the EFL Cup in the next four seasons.

Despite that spell of dominance, his side haven't won the EFL Cup since, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Liverpool winning in recent years.

Nevertheless, Guardiola's men will be the team to watch once more. While Guardiola will heavily rotate his squad throughout the rounds, he has a much deeper squad than any of his rivals, and there will be very few ties his side aren't favourites for.

While Arsenal had a good spell in the FA Cup, winning the trophy four times in seven years, the Gunners have had no such luck in the EFL Cup, making just one final in 13 years, failing to win the competition since 1993, but Mikel Arteta's men are second favourites at 8/1.

We don't know what we'll get from Arne Slot's Liverpool this season, though he did win the Dutch Cup last term with Feyenoord, beating champions PSV and fourth-place AZ Alkmaar en route to the final, and the Reds are 10/1.

Chelsea prepare for another new season under another new manager, and for a club who used to collect trophies like some people collect stamps, they've experienced a relative drought in recent years. Excluding the Super Cup and Club World Cup, Chelsea haven't won a trophy in the last three years, and their dry spell in domestic cups stretches back much further.

The Blues have had no difficulty getting to Wembley, but have lost in their last six domestic cup finals with their last EFL Cup win coming all the way back in 2015. We don't yet know how their squad will line up for next season with more transfer activity likely, nor do we know how they'll fare under Enzo Maresca, but with what is likely to be plenty of rotation options, Chelsea are 10/1 for the EFL Cup.

Newcastle are next in the betting at 11/1 and while the Magpies had a miserable time of it in the cups throughout the Mike Ashley era, things have been more positive in recent years, reaching a first cup final since 1999 in 2023, losing to Manchester United. Despite a draw last season that saw them face Manchester City at home, Manchester United away and Chelsea away, Newcastle made the quarter-finals, only losing on penalties.

Manchester United have surprisingly opted to stick with Erik ten Hag for another season at least, and while the Red Devils were poor for so much of the Premier League season, finishing eighth, the club have reached three cup finals in the Dutchman's two years at the helm, and another run in the EFL Cup can't be written off, with United 14/1.
