NRL: Eels urged to embrace the hate

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur is urging his players to embrace the hate that will come their way when they take on Penrith at Panthers Stadium on Friday night.

The Eels are priced at 7/2 to pull off a shock win but as well as taking on a very strong Panthers side, they will also be up against a very hostile home crowd.

Arthur rallying call

However Eels coach Arthur says it is not something they should fear, and he is instead urging his players to embrace the hot atmosphere.

"There's a lot of hatred from the fans. I think it's a sellout there tomorrow and so our boys know they're going to cop it but it's all part of the game," Arthur told reporters. "It's all part of the theatre and that's what it's about.

"It makes for a really good clash and I'm sure both teams are going to rip into each other and hopefully it comes down to the 80th minute."

Cowboys loss

Parramatta need a response after suffering a crushing 35-4 loss against the North Queensland Cowboys last week and Arthur says that should be their motivation. Not the 8-6 defeat they suffered against the Panthers in finals last year.

"So it's an opportunity," Arthur added. "But it's more an opportunity to see what we're about and what response we get out of ourselves.

"I know we are hurting and there's a bit of pride on the line so, while the results are important every week, it's how you play as well. We just need to be consistent in every moment of the game; from every set in every game. When we can do that, that will lead to being able to do it from week to week."
