Edgar Berlanga v Padraig McCrory - Tale of the Tape: Weight, height, reach, trainer & professional boxing records

We analyse the credentials and statistics of Edgar Berlanga and Padraig McCrory as the two super-middleweights get set for their showdown in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday 25th February.

Full Fight Markets

Edgar Berlanga will face Irish opposition for the second consecutive fight at the end of February.

The former hot prospect built a reputation as a knockout artist in his first 16 fights with every opponent failing to hear the final bell. In his last five fights, however, each of his foes have gone the distance with the 26-year-old super-middleweight contender.

Berlanga will next trade leather with the unbeaten 35-year-old Padraig McCrory at the Caribe Royale in Orlando knowing that anything other than a dominant win won’t be enough to satisfy his fans and promoter, Eddie Hearn.

The American was once touted as a future opponent for Canelo Alvarez, but the heat has been turned down since delivering lacklustre performances in recent fights.

McCrory has built some momentum in his career and packs enough of a whack to make this fight interesting early on but who will get their hand raised at the end?

It's time to look at the 'Tale of the Tape'...

When Edgar Berlanga parted ways with previous promoter Top Rank in January 2023 he did so on the back of a number of below-par performances.

One month later the New Yorker signed a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

Nicknamed ‘The Chosen One’ Berlanga remains a hot ticket in the Big Apple thanks to his Puerto Rican roots.

Hearn tapped into the Berlanga fanbase bringing his new charge back to the Madison Square Garden Theatre in June last year for a fight against Ireland’s Jason Quigley. Berlanga’s one-sided victory included four knockdowns but the fighter himself graded his own performance as a “C”.

Potential fights against Canelo, David Benavidez or Jaime Munguia appear some way off but his popularity/ticket sales in New York is his ace card.

In 2024 there is a greater possibility he will take on Matchroom’s other super-middleweight hope Diego Pacheco in a fight where Pacheco could arguably start favourite.

In the early hours of February 25th, Berlanga can’t be seen going the distance again.

There ought to be a gulf in class between the odds-on favourite and McCrory. If he struggles to get the win or doesn’t trounce the Northern Irishman, then Eddie Hearn may double-check how many fights are left on Berlanga’s multi-fight deal.

Slowly but surely Padraig McCrory has built a record and reputation that has turned him into one of Ireland’s most exciting fighters.

McCrory is a late bloomer but at 35 his age could be something that stands him in good stead going into Berlanga’s back yard where he will have his own band of travelling supporters.

The Belfast fighter is taking a considerable leap in opposition fighting Berlanga with his biggest win to date being an away day victory in Germany 16 months ago, stopping Leon Bunn in six rounds to win the IBO light-heavyweight title.

His last two bouts and victories have come at super-middleweight, but he may be the smaller man against Berlanga who carries a bigger frame.

Whatever happens come fight night McCrory will give it his all and his natural offensive strategies may be his best chance of victory
