Dustin Poirier Odds: American 9/2 to beat Islam Makhachev

Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier will bid to become a world champion for the first time at UFC 302 when he takes on Islam Makhachev with the Lightweight belt on the line.

(Odds will display when the market is available).

35-year-old former interim Lightweight champion Poirier goes into this fight with Makhachev as a significant underdog, with his Dagestani opponent preparing for his third defence of his world title.

Makhachev claimed the vacant Lightweight championship against Charles Oliveira in October 2022, and has since defended the belt with two victories over one of the best pound-for-pound martial artists in the UFC in the form of Alexander Volkanovski.

With close friend and former Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner, 32-year-old Makhachev is a fighter who appears at the peak of his powers at present.

Poirier will go into the bout with confidence, however, with the Louisiana native delivering a sensational performance in his last bout - knocking out French contender Benoit Saint Denis in the second round at UFC 299 back in March.

A long-time rival of Conor McGregor, Poirier's fight against Makhachev will be his third Lightweight world title contest, having previously been beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.
