Ben Stokes has been named in Durham's squad for their County Championship Division Two match against Northamptonshire this weekend.
The England Test captain is currently under investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Cricket Regulator after he was involved in an incident at a London nightclub with Gus Atkinson.
It's left Stokes' position as skipper under intense scrutiny and there was concern in the immediate aftermath that the 35-year-old may retire from international cricket.
Both Stokes and Atkinson were omitted from England's squad for the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval, but the duo are permitted to play domestic cricket and represent their respective county sides.
England's stand-in Test captain, Joe Root, believes Stokes remains in a positive frame of mind despite questions being asked of his professionalism.
Root told Sky Sports: "I've spoken with Ben, he seems in a good place in the last week or so.
"There's been a few incidents where guys have let themselves down, but I don't necessarily think that's a fair reflection of our dressing room. We've got to obviously own it and know that that is not okay, but at the same time, I don't think that's a fair reflection on us as a team. We work incredibly hard.
"I think Ben feels like he's let himself down, right?
"My main concern is, always, you look at the person and make sure that they're okay, so that is first and foremost the most important thing, and then in terms of this week and moving forward as a team, it's concentrating, making sure that everyone is fully on task and understanding of what's ahead of us and what an exciting opportunity we have."
If the ECB complete their investigation by next Monday, there's a possibility Stokes could be eligible for selection for England's third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
In the meantime, Durham will be hoping the presence of Stokes can help to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
The Chester-le-Street outfit have won four and drawn three in Division Two and lead this weekend's opponents Northamptonshire by 18 points in the standings.
