NBA - US Sports: Durant bemoans Nets' continuity issues

Kevin Durant feels a lack of continuity has hampered Brooklyn Nets' chances of competing for the championship during his time with the team.

The Nets are 6/1 to win the NBA Championship outright, while defending champions Milwaukee Bucks can be backed at 5/1.

Returning from long absence

Durant joined the Nets in the summer of 2019 but missed the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign through injury, finally making his debut in December 2020.

Last season, the Nets suffered a number of injury issues over the course of the campaign and they were ultimately eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

Brooklyn were expected to be serious contenders this season but they have again struggled with issues regarding absent players.

Key men absent

Kyrie Irving missed the first half of the season entirely due to the fact he was ineligible to play in home games, Durant has missed 28 games through injury and Brooklyn's big three was broken up as James Harden opted to move to Philadelphia 76ers - with Ben Simmons moving in the opposite direction.

Simmons is yet to make his Brooklyn debut and is unlikely to play this season, and Durant feels the fact the team haven't been able to build up any kind of rhythm over a sustained period is the reason they find themselves in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

"The reality is that I feel our season was derailed by my injury," he saud, via Fadeaway World. "I'm not looking at it like we're just not a good basketball team.

"We lack continuity with me and Kyrie out of the lineup, that's just what it is. When we are all on the floor together, I like what we got."

The Nets will have to come through the play-in tournament if they are to reach the playoffs this season and a championship bid still isn't out of the question this season, but it seems as if Durant is confident on their chances of taking a title in the long-term even if they are unable to launch a serious challenge this year.
