Dominic Calvert-Lewin announces Everton departure following expiration of contract

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has ended speculation surrounding his Everton future, confirming he will depart the club on a free transfer this summer to explore 'new opportunities'.

Premier League 2025/26

The 11 cap England international joined the Toffees from Sheffield United in 2016 and subsequently went on to enjoy nine successful years at Goodison Park.

In total, he made 273 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored 71 goals, including a season high 21 during the 2020/21 campaign.

Calvert-Lewin and his representatives have been in talks with Everton hierarchy regarding a potential contract extension, however the striker has now confirmed that his time on Merseyside is set to reach its conclusion.

Posting on his official social media platforms on Sunday morning, the 29-year-old wrote a heartfelt message to Evertonians.

"To Everton Football Club and the Evertonians.

"After nine remarkable years at this club, I've made the incredibly difficult decision, together with my family, to begin a new chapter in my career.

"This isn't something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It's the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow, and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.

"I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I've worked with over the years, and to my teammates who have become lifelong friends.

"Above all, I want to speak to you, the fans. Your passion is the beating heart of this club.

Whether times were good or tough, your unwavering support never faltered. Celebrating goals at Goodison Park, feeling that roar, is an experience I'll carry with me forever.

"This choice to move on was not simply about me-it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together.

"We believe it's the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn't lessen the bond I'll always have with Everton.

"I'm deeply proud of what we've shared, fighting for this club when it mattered most, scoring big goals in crucial moments, wearing the shirt with commitment and pride.

"My hope is that I leave with your respect, knowing I always sought to uphold the values of this great club."

Calvert-Lewin played an integral role for Everton as they battled to retain their Premier League survival in recent years, but found game-time limited last term as injuries and a lack of form took their toll.

David Moyes favoured Brazilian Beto in the lone-striker role as the former West Ham United boss transformed the fortunes of the club after numerous campaigns battling the drop under previous boss Sean Dyche.

Calvert-Lewin will undoubtedly have plenty of interest in the coming weeks though, with numerous Premier League sides having already been reported to have shown an interest in acquiring his services.

Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and West Ham have all been linked with swoops for the frontman over the past 12 months, and the trio are likely to be joined by numerous other clubs - both at home and abroad - keen to secure a deal for one of the most appealing free agents on the market.
